Have to do the first two and the last two gunport doors, will try to get the hinges functional working...., here first try (the 1 mm round bar shall be cut to fit later on)

 

 

 

the small parts from the etched sheet are soldered to the 1 x 2 mm Tube, then cut off...

 

here also the Counter hinge part that goes to the hull above the gunport, the small Pivot rod is 1 mm

 

will AC glue the Long hinge parts to the gunport door (have to do the doors first and fit them in...)

the first of the four gunport doors is attached, functional with hinges

 

 

 

 

 

I let the Pivot rod go through both hinges, this gives more stability to the function, although I was intending to cutawy the rod in the middle space

 

here open...

 

In one of Danny`s last Posts (Vulture 1:48) he mentioned the scuppers for the Manager pit. I had not been Aware that there had to be some although it`s quite Logical to catch the dirt and mud on the anchor cable behind the hawse hole, and for rinsing reasons.

I set the brass tube scuppers in about 5 degree declining downward from Managing pit (deck) to the upper Portion of the wale, above that Little decor

Shes looking great Nils, the stove is a really nice contrast.  I love the feeling of depth that you are acheiving by leaving some of the decking open, especially some of the earlier photos showing the view onto the hold throught he main hatch.

I have`nt looked into the Amati plan for some time now, because I get so much Inspiration from builds of other members, and then there are so many ideas I would like to intigrate and that are not shown on the plan. I wish you much pleausure with your own HMS Snake model, it is a fine built vessel

due to the fact that there are only 4 gunlids shown on the plan and therefore done, it was not much extra effort to make them moveable, it was a bit tricky in soldering those mini-hinges

I`m hesitating for putting on the quarter deck and the forcastle deck because the guns underneath, as well as the anchor rigging would have to be installed permanently before. I think I`ll do the anchor- messenger rigging next, when I get the appropriate ordered ropes. Also the upper bulwark portions of the welldeck and the swivel gunposts Need some attention

here rises the question...

the downleading stairway (not shown here yet) from the Quarterdeck will be landing between capstan and the next downward starcase, interferes full with the gundeck capstan, if it should be operated with 360 ° turn.

does the Quarterdeck stair have to be fitted moveable with hinges, for instance to be hauled up against the Quarterdeck from beneath, to allow full capstan operation ?

Hi Nils, according to the ffm the capstan bars were 8' long = 38mm at scale, and when in use gratings would cover the hatchways. I think the Quarterdeck ladder would be removed when the capstan was in operation, I doubt there was room to swing it up beneath the deck beams.

for your explain on ladder a capstan. I was a Little bit between the Options of putting on the Quarterdeck ladder, or Fitting the gundeck capstan spars, so theat These could be visible through the Quarterdeck outcuts from above.

Setting the tiller for steering either for Manual direct, or for steering with tackle rope and wheel. In raw shaped condition, Needs to be fine tuned...

there are so many of These small deck Fittings to be done, I am trying to get the binnacle cabinet assembled and completed today. All the Fittings go in row and there is hardly space to get all in line.

Here a short update on the assembly Arrangement..

 

I am thinking of doing some structuring to the raw swivel gunposts

 

would have to tacle guns and anchor cables, all that goes underneath the Quarterdeck before putting it on permanently, am always a bit anxious that something could be forgotten to Mount as Long as there is Access there

 

would now Need to get the forecastle assembly Status to the same Level..

I`m glad you like the arrangement

the Quarterdeck will be permanently attached when all the Fitting out below is done. Otherwise I would have to spend more Details on the cabins Fitting out below, like furniture, etc. But the outcut of the deck always allows a look into the ship from the outside.

 

BTW I am curious to the keellaying of your "Le Gros Ventre" Project, sounds very interesting

the swivel gunposts are shaped octogonal in the upper post-portions and the Ends secured with a metal ring.

The guns still Need to get handles to operate...

 

the metal gunpost rings shall sit slightly above the roughtree rail when it is mounted

the solution with the tiller socket was just an idea when I thought of how to avoid a weakening the rudderpost, together with the squaretube that goes around it

swivel gun prototype mounted. the rail shown here give riged reinforcement to the gunposts in opposite to the (later to be mounted) roughtree rails, that Need good support
