Kevin,

First of all, your model is beautiful and your doing a great job turning Titanic into  Britannic.

I have one quibble!  Like Titanic, I assume that Britannic’s fourth stack was a dummy.  If so, would the dummy stack still have the relief valve piping running up its forward side?

Roger

it appears that all four stacks are fairly identical with the exception of number 3 which has a lot extra pipework

Too bad that Britannic's boat racks would be useless in case of emergency (no time to move the boats from lower positions) and fortunately the ship was empty when sank.

Brittanic was not empty when she was mined. On the morning of 21 November 1916 she was shaken by an explosion caused by a mine near the Greek island of Kea and sank 55 minutes later, killing 30 people. There were 1,066 people on board; the 1,036 survivors were rescued from the water andthe lifeboats.

good evening everyone

thank you for comments and like, and the ongoing conversation about loss of life and survivors

having built up the 2nd set of racks i then had to work out how they are fitted, they appear to sit on top of two small cabins, of which i presently dont know their purpose, but they have doors, so yet again when i find out, i will let you knowIMG_5136.thumb.JPG.c2d220183c6ed4ddf246b42f800e9884.JPGIMG_5137.thumb.JPG.6e2d60fb40f1803ff75f70b95e8af474.JPGIMG_5138.thumb.JPG.0fa304568f22f914f76b505033845a38.JPGIMG_5140.thumb.JPG.438cf280ceee507342597806e9822e87.JPGIMG_5141.thumb.JPG.e903dd92cd9331078e39745c0c2f4e67.JPGIMG_5142.thumb.JPG.f56858a4154dd5505831f04c01830cc9.JPGIMG_5143.thumb.JPG.edbd3bc81903287b94e94e5711a42a42.JPGIMG_5144.thumb.JPG.d644d2b1f0c27fa64fb316ed491ad67d.JPG

Of course she hadn't sailed without crew. 🤪 I mean there were no wounded men in the hospital, the ship's rooms were empty. The medical crew, the sailors, the officers were on board, but no 'passengers'.

I believe that a major loss of life occurred when a full life boat got tangled up with the ships propellers.  This of course happened after it had been launched.  The lifeboat launching system worked as intended.

Roger

No, it didn't worked. After Captain Bartlett decided to try run aground the Britannic, he ordered to keep boats ready on board. Unfortunately a few boats were already in the water and one smashed by the still running propellers. When Bartlett realized that he cannot save the ship (8:35), he orderd to lower the boats, but that was too late, all of the port side cranes were unable to launch any boat due listing of the ship. Starboard cranes wasn't fast enough to release their lifeboat, because weren't enough men to move the boats from lower storage.
Many of the survivors were survived because one of the officers (his name didn't preserved) ordered his men to throw the collapsible life rafts and deck chairs overboard. At this time (8:45) all the cranes were unusable, because the forward set was underwater, the others due the listing.

Please note the difference: Britannic had 3309 bed for wounded men, and had 1106 for RAMC and crew. This totals 4415 and there were 1066 persons only on board when she sunk. They hadn't have to manage to release all life boat, but still failed to release them for all men, many survivors had to jump and climb into boats later. The theory to keep boats on top of each other proved wrong, and later ships were built with individual cranes for every boat to allow them to launch simultaneously.

They're lucky it was in the Med not the north Atlantic.

Had they been in the North Atlantic, they might not have hit a mine

thank you @Roger Pellett i am still looking how the boats stacked below those on top were removed, as the racking does not appear hinged or slatted,

good morning everyone

thank you for comments and likes

im still hoping to finish this build before the end of the year, im busy saving me pennies for the next project, my delay if any will be the boat gantries, i dont evem know if they will fit,

all the upper superstructure has now been added, with access to power for any other lighting points that may be required.

This morning the after raised deck was permanently fitted, and seams to have gone on ok, all this scratch work seams quite messy to me, working without plans, im finding quite tricky

intentions are now to slowly work forward and get her complete

like all kits, they are not always suited for conversion, and a lot of artistic licence is required to make it work, its not magic, just a lot of worrying, of what people might think of my pathetic attempt to show a build in progress

i have two sets of gantries in place, but the spacing between them is slightly different as there is not enough space to put everything in, also the superstructure islands are different between the two hulls

however they are are now in place and hopefully staying there, im still thoroughly enjoying this, but so looking forward to getting back into wood

some walkway supports are raised a bit, will be sorted

Some of the extra detail, ladders and fixing points
