I am taking my time preparing stuff before I commit to the glue.

I sorted out the small frames at the bow and stern.

DSC02462.thumb.JPG.015b1d647fab175dd77918cc8fad8a6b.JPG

I spent a happy day stripping the cutting templates from the frames. I didn't find any of the usual solvents worked particularly well on pritt stick adhesive but peeling / sanding worked ok.

The cut line for the deck made the frames very flexible and I wanted them to be a little stiffer for the future hull sanding process. I therefore temporarily glued small strips of wood across the deck cut line to increase the stiffness.

DSC02465.thumb.JPG.676d61d5a3357957328a97277caf2755.JPG

I also sorted out the correct vertical position of the keel. The keel slots were cut deeper than needed so I cut the keel strip and then assembled it into a few of the frames before setting it to the correct heights fore and aft. With friction holding the keel in place I glued tabs to the frames to fix the keel position.

The line of the keel is broken at frame 61 and the next job is to sort out the position of the aft section of the keel.

Not very exciting but progress is progress.

I don't think they are solvent based... I've found a washing-up sponge (scotchbright side) damped with soapy warm water works as well as anything.

Not sure if the Pritt stick is the same thing I use  but the sticks I use clean up with isopropyl Alcohol, I just spray it on leave it for 5 mins and it peels away, the rest wipes off with some on a paper towel.
Flying Fish is right, they are water-based but I find IA easier as it dries quickly that's all.

Andy -

I didn't try water as I was a bit worried about distorting the frames. I was probably being a bit over cautious.

Rightly so... its the reason I wipe the wood with thinned shellac sealer before sticking on the paper, and providing the sponge is damp not wet it seems to work. Pesky stuff that Pritt stick glue!

Hi Keith.  It maybe one of those 'colour shifting' paints, depending on the ambient light and viewing aspect?  I know there are several model paint suppliers such as SMS, now providing these.  You sometimes have to put down a series of coats to get the right effect.   A chap that goes by an avatar of "Barbados Rex' on you tube has rune some extensive tests of these paints for several suppliers.  May be worth investigating?

cheers

Pat

I wouldn't go for the blue. Check out the reflection on water, she's definitely green, although the wheelhouse color match (just darker a bit):

image.png.7082845cb178765b2f8c82028c1a9c9f.png

I think the blue color on this picture is false white balance, maybe intentional editing.

On my UNCALIBRATED monitor the RGB color is Jade Mist HEX061618, whilst the color of the green boat on the first picture is HEX060f11 - they are really close to each other

Hi Keith happy new year to you, did you intend to cut slots deeper so that you could adjust or was this a faux pas 🤔 I was wondering in the picture why those clips were there.

Looking very good 👍

Richard - yes it was intentional. Much easier to adjust from being too deep than adjust from being too shallow - being too shallow might involve correcting multiple slots or alternatively making the majority over deep and just a couple correct.

Really nice progress, Keith.  I find setting up the stations and getting the backbone positioning correct to be difficult and unsatisfying work.  However, it is rather exciting to finally see the shape of the hull crystalize in front of you.

Excellent.  Very useful.  I found that gentle heat from a hairdryer was sufficient to soften the prittstick such that it just peeled off.

As I said in another post earlier today the workshop heated up to a sweat inducing 10c this week, so I made the most of it and did some shipyard work. To be honest if the workshop drops below 10c the PVA glue takes an absolute age to set and even then the bond strength seems weak. At least that is my excuse for slow progress.

Anyway it was time to start glueing the frames into the building board. In the following sequence of shots you can see how I am using various blocks to get the frames vertical.

DSC02470.thumb.JPG.5403622f2163ca4c03f31096f863a013.JPG

I am also using the rods to ensure the alignment of the frames both top and bottom.

DSC02472.thumb.JPG.d42a5b03d908c5ede73959c7f3f3e389.JPG

As I am progressing along the hull I am installing horizontal bracing frames.  Where I want to retain the option for doing some below deck detail the bracing is put in at the below deck floor level. Where the below deck won't be visible I am putting the bracing in where it maximises rigidity. As I progress I slide the alignment rods progressively rearward.
