Work area pictures only

I have two areas in the same room, one for wood kits, and one for plastic kits. I collect the old aircraft kits from the 60’s, the ones I built as a kid. The wood model area has two drawing tables, my small tools, small Wen bandsaw, a proxon sander, dremels ect and Bluejackets Smuggler in works… No carpet or rug for the wood area, easier to vacuum up the dust and shavings.

Hi Tim - nice looking space - I'm guessing you use that two-hander saw on the wall for particularly large modelling projects.

 

Here's my little corner of the world - though honestly it has not seen much use lately, sad to say - been too busy with work and home projects and other things for the last few months.....a couple of before shots of the dilapidated garage it used to be for comparison....the "after" photos were taken when it was more or less brand new (2021) - it is a bit messier now with more tools and more storage space....but it's a nice spot to be in on a sunny Saturday morning with a hot cup of coffee.

Beautiful transformation of your garage Hamilton! Nice work area. The big saw in the plastic modeling area is a 10 inch skill saw, no where else to put it. I like your tabletop, something I’m looking into as my wood work bench is a piece of &*#@. I went to move it slightly last week and it collapsed send my tools everywhere. I have clamps hold it together at the moment. One clamp visible under chair. Luckily Smuggler was not on it. Again nice job on your shop!!

Dave, E,  I ended my career as an F-14 Plane Captain, Grumman Aerospace, Calverton, NY 1973-1993. Were you at Oceana? I see you collect the old model kits as I do. Aurora, Revell ,Monogram ,Hawk. Must have 300 or so. Your shop is similar to mine! Plastic vs Wood.

@Nirvana - Yes that's my scratch Bluenose (the last model I completed) in an early stage of development - you'll also recognise Syren perched between the frames of another project I've been slowly working up in secret - a 1:48 scratch of HMS Scarborough based on the Anatomy of the Ship Blandford -  which I'm building using a hybrid P.o.B. (from the gun deck downwards) P.o.F. (gundeck and above) approach - it's another version of the 1:100 scale Corel Greyhound I built as Blandford over a decade ago.....work at the bench is slow, but time still flies!!! Aspects of Einstein's relativity theory can be experienced in this way!

I posted some pictures of my shipyard a year or so ago, but over the weekend I make some changes.  The two work surfaces used to be opposite of each other with the took box in between.  I decided to create an L shaped work surface to take better advantage of the light from the window.  
 

 

 

 

I still have my comfortable chair for watching the Premier League on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

This is my basement hideout.  The first two are of the cubicle where I do most of the modoeling. I  carved this out of the big workshop when I gave up making furniture.   The second two show the rump big workshop,  now minus some of the big tools,  but the tablesaw still gets plenty of use, as does the bench.  Plus, I have my collection of Byrnes machines out there.

 

Many happy hours spent down there.   And more to come as I approach full retirement!

Not many of us left..i have it on in the background sometimes whilst building..the bench is clear ready for starting HMS WARRIOR... big build!

I live in a small unit, and this was my lounge-dining room, which has now been converted into an artisan studio.

Here, the bench is waiting for my first sailing ship kit to arrive. The workbench is a secondhand dining table I bought about thirty years ago. It has always been a workbench and has mainly been used for artworks and electronics projects. Seven years ago, it was used for my first modelling projects, and now it will be used again for the same purpose.

I call this the Mossy Shipyard. It’s a 12’ x 16’ salt box pole barn. The right side is my wife’s scrapbook area, if I haven’t got is so messy she can’t sit down.

Just moved house and this is destined to be my new workshop. 

It will be dual purpose: the outer (street) end is for general woodworking and stuff with modelmaking taking up the back half.

It's been dubbed 'the fiddleyard'.

Hi all, about to start ship building so I reorganised my workspace. The right hand section will now be plastic modelling whilst the left hand space for ship building. The left space may also morph into spray booth area but time will tell, the booth is portable so can be added at anytime. This always subject of how much dust and and detritus I will produce prior to airbrushing. I do tend to clean and clear the bench every-time I finish (ex engineer) so it may not be a problem.

 

All the furniture is from the wonderful world of IKEA.
