Hi everyone

Here's the latest progress report on Ingomar.  I've shaped the two masts, plus their respective booms.  I've also started to plan out where the blocks will be located to attach the rigging; as can be seen by one of the photos.  At this stage, I haven't added the rigging yet, but I have jury rigged a temporary shroud on each mast just to keep the masts steady.

Deck-wise, I've lowered the height of the davits to their proper scale height (they were way too high before).  They look heaps better now.  I've also added the anchor davits right up in the bow of the ship.  I've built a new boarding ladder and added the hand rails to it as well.  The ladder is still attached with blue tack at the moment.  It'll be a while before I finally attach it, though.

Oh, and by the way, I've found Cap'N'Bob's close up photos of the rigging on his Lettie M Howard schooner invaluable; mainly because I'm totally clueless when it comes to rigging.....but, I am good at copying from the masters like Bob!

Hope you enjoy the photos!

Hi everyone

A quick update on Ingomar. The rigging is well underway. This is always the bit I dread the most. The photos may show absolute chaos (which, I assure you, yes, it really is chaos!), but out of great mess, comes great success...well, that's the hope anyway.

Hope you enjoy. Questions, comments and advice always welcomed!

The rigging is in it's early stages.  All of what you see is temporarily put in place so that I can get a feel for the placement of sheets, blocks, etc.  I've also added the backstays (which aren't shown in these photos) as well as the netting under Ingomar's long bowsprit.

More progress photos will follow later on.

Hope you enjoy.  Questions, comments and advice always welcomed!

You’ll get it, and yes, patience is the right word.  Many times I think, ‘how am I going to do . . .’  I may ponder the problem for days and make three or four attempts, finally a method I like will come to me and the work gets done.  It can be frustrating but it is worth it.

Hi Bob, Nils and everyone for their likes and advice.   I'm still jury-rigging rigging all over the place in order to see what works and what doesn't look right.  Bob- I'm sorry, but at this small scale, I'm going to have go with a simplified rig, without the detail that you're able to achieve.  Sort of like sacrificing accuracy for what looks right.

Here're the latest photos.

What? At your scale the 12" blocks would be .06" (1.5mm)  Hmmm come to think of it, I wouldn't try it either.  What you are doing looks great.

Hi all.  Thanks Steve, Bob, Piet and everyone for your Likes and comments.

Ingomar's rigging continues.  However, tonight, I was mucking around with the camera and accidentally took a silhouette shot.  Didn't look too bad, I thought; so I ended up taking a few more.  Anyhow, here's what Ingomar looks like when you're chasing shadows!

All the best, everyone!

Hi everyone. Ingomar's construction is nearing an end. This has been a very enjoyable and challenging ship to build. I hope I've made Hereshoff proud!

Ok, so, the bits that I've just completed are the railings on the stanchions and the boarding ladder. I've added more rigging and a red cove stripe to highlight the sheer line, as well as gluing the boarding ladder onto the hull.

Things still to do are very minor, but include finishing the davits, completing the simulated blocks in the rigging and hanging the three ships boats.

Hope you enjoy the photos.

All the best!

Hi Nils, Daniel, Bob, Piet, Sven, Jeff and everyone else for their Likes and comments!

Receiving all of your comments is a great motivating factor and spurs me on to try new methods and ideas.

Jeff- the idea of adding sails is a tantalising one.  However, I've always avoided adding sails because it means that I haveto add a lot more running rigging and, quite frankly, that scares me!  I have enough of a hard time just doing what I do.  In fact, after having built miniature versions of HMS Victory. Bounty and Lennox, all of which have three masts with masses of rigging, just the thought of more rigging is enough to send me to therapy. So, in Ingomar's case, I think her sails are neatly stored below decks!

Thanks for your thoughts, though.

All the best, everyone!

Guess what!  Ingomar is now sporting her ship's boats!  They're painted black so that they stand out from the mother ship's white hull.  I've also fitted them with rudders and propellers.  I still have to fit them permanently to their davits, but that can be done shortly after a touch up or two.  Can't wait.

Anyhow, here goes with the photos.  But, wait...the second photo shows the completed boarding ladder, which also scrubbed up pretty well.

All the best everyone!
