Added the strip below the frieze and the thwart supports.  I used boxwood and was able to create a nice distinct groove.

Bob -

Your paint job looks great.  I originally planned to stay with the wood supplied in the kit, but after seeing your results, I think I'll switch to a harder wood for the risers and seats.  Nice job!

Thanks Bob.  I just can't deal with the basswood.  I could not get a good groove.

Looking great.  Why tear your hair out getting a halfway decent result with the basswood when it is so easy to get a beautiful result with a hardwood such as boxwood?

Hello all,

Since my last posting I have completed the thwarts and have started working on the aft seats and locker.  I used boxwood on all the thwarts.  Again, this was done to get a clean line with the scriber.

After seeing your model last Sat. I went to Old Town for lunch. They had a piece of driftwood like yours there but too oddly shaped for a base. Darn! I really like that effect.

I am at the thwarts stage and have a question, the instructions say to use 1/8" wide strips for 7 of them and 3/16" for the mast one.but on the plans view i measured them at just under 3/16", and the one with the mast is 9/32" What should I go by?

Your Longboat looks great.  You are not as slow as some other builders that I know.  Thanks for the update.

Working on her slowly but surely.  Painted and installed the knees.  Made the windlass using basswood.  Could not help myself yesterday and ordered the Pinnace.

Looking good!!!  Enjoy the pinnace model.  I am building one again as well.   Or trying to find the time.  Building it in all holly.

I hope you enjoy it.

Bob,

Looking good!!  I'm feeling guilty about languishing on mine.   ....although I think I will start anew with the one I got from Brian, incorporating lessons learned.  I will then use the old one for a 'hand to the audience to look at' demo at the Fair.  It was pretty popular last year.

Once I get this cyber inspection at work out of the way (and deal with this newsletter that somebody dumped in my lap), I will be off and running with the Longboat and the Philly.

Installed the Horse and Oar Locks.  Pretty straight forward.  I am currently painting the rudder.  I plan on masting and rigging by Saturday.
