Patrick, Sorry I didn't find this fine build sooner.  On the other hand it kept me from having to say, "WOW !" too many times.  Your cutaway and detailing are always fantastic.  WOW !

Each time when I look at your pictures, I lose myself in the scale. I constantly forget how small it is ... - then sudden I see your thumb in the image!

Lawrence, I'm with you on that score. I always believe that adding life to a model, especially through detail, adds so much character and realism; which I guess explains why I love doing the interiors of models.

I couldn't agree more with Mike & Piet - it really is only when you post pictures of Rainbow when you're holding her that the enormity of the challenge comes to the fore. To create so much detail from such miniscule pieces of timber is, for me, something quite extraordinary. So as not to keep repeating myself I'll quote from Cap'n'Bob instead, 'Wow'!!

Your compliments mean heaps to me. Whilst more installments will follow, here's a quick update:

 

Last night I started on the bulkheads and doing the measurements for the layout of the rear owner's stateroom. This was important because it allowed me to get the locations and measurements of the other accommodation items such as the main companion way staircase, the bathrooms, toilets, cupboards and the navigation station.

 

Still bucket loads to do, but it's definitely fun.

Hope your week's been going well.  Rainbow's progress continues...my main objective though, has been to concentrate on the major bulkheads and cupboard, etc.  Once I'm happy that these are in place, then I'll start on the other details, such as the doors, mattresses, sink, galley, etc.

Patrick, I never knew that the J Class America’s Cup yachts were really “yachts” with fine living quarters below decks.  I thought they were like the 12 meter boats that are pretty much empty hulls for sail storage.  I wouldn’t mind living on Rainbow.  Your model shows her as a fine Yacht.

Hi Patrick, the great and wonderfull work!

Yes, the yachts of J-class, which were born for the America's Cup, quickly evolved and became perfect. Technical rules of the Cup promoted creation of such forms. These yachts had having about 80 ft of a length on a waterline and the total length nearly one and a half times bigger (115-130 ft), but width of the hull was only about 20 ft. Some well-known yachts are now recreated in the form of replica.

Perfection of lines of these yachts reminds me perfection of lines of gliders.

Thanks for all your likes and comments!  Greatly appreciated.  Special thanks also to Dennis, Jeff, Igor and David for their recent comments.

 

The next few photos show the progress made so far on the owner's cabin at the rear as well as the galley.  I've also temporarily marked the topside of the hull with a black marker pen, just to get an idea of the final paint job.  Not too bad, I thought.  I'll paint it properly afterwards.

Especially I like the first and second one from the top - wonderful elegance!

Also the second to last with the perspectivic view of the bulkheads. To this, I have a question: How were the white bulkheads materialized?
