  1. That's some fine looking brass work Mick. I would love to clone your shop too.
  2. Glad to have you here. Don't forget to start a build log when your ready.
  3. Glad to see you back and happy to be aboard your log. As far as holding the keel there are some great ideas in build logs to borrow. I think simple is better. I know sometimes we try to over think things.
  4. It's too bad he bugged out. Oh well, maybe he will find what he's looking for somewhere else. Hope he comes back though.
  5. I have a Veritas mini block plane but I'll keep an eye for one of those luthier plans. It looks like it would be easy to handle for a small tool. Thanks again.
  6. Glad to see some progress Mick. Nice work as usual. Oh, can you tell us about that little brass plane? It looks like the perfect tool for model work.
  7. Looks great from here Mark. I know what you mean about having to set the fun stuff aside now and then. It's not always a smooth road.
  8. Agree. It's so nice to be able to mill that perfect plank as needed.
  9. I'm looking forward to it Steve. You add a lot of value to the form with your skill and humor. And besides you've become what I consider to be a friend.
  10. I' sorry to hear your throwing in the towel on the Connie. At least you'll come away from it with more knowledge for the next project.
  11. That is a nice looking knife handle. If you ever buy the flat surgical handles look for the ones made by Bard Parker. They are head and shoulders better than the ones made in India. The blades fit much better with much less wiggle and they are made of much harder material that holds up better. I have some that I have been using for 35 years and they are like the day I got them.
  12. Thank you Lawrence. You’ll be there before you know it. You are build a larger and much more complex ship and doing a great job of it at that. Along with learning how to carve the decorations I’m making my treenails. I know you were trying to decide on a material to use for them. I decided on bamboo for two reasons. I want them to be very subtle as they would not really even show at this scale. Second I couldn’t draw any other wood through the Byrnes draw plate without constant breaking. Once I got the hang of the bamboo it went easy.
  13. Thanks Mark. I’m taking a break from working on the hull right now and am playing with the carvings. Just practicing right now on scrap wood but it’s going ok.
