Thank you George and Tom for your encouragement. I have been taking pictures as I go so I will try to start a build log. I guess it's like stepping on stage for the first time. Greg

Tom I have just started mine and I guess I'm just afraid mine won't live up to the quality of the work I see on this forum. It's my first build. Thanks for asking Greg

Coppering wear
Burroak replied to drtrap's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
I wonder if a product called Tarn-X would work? It makes an old penny look brand new. You might try it. Greg -
I am wondering if it's ok to just measure the distance from the top of the bulkheads to the reference line on the blueprint and then measure that same on the bulkhead and make my reference line mark? I have seen where others on here make templates from the blueprint to transfer the reference line. What is yalls opinion on this?

Jesse the hardware mfgs that make door knobs and such out of brass, put a coat of lacquer on the finish to protect it. You might try that on the copper plating. I would try it on some left over plates to make sure it doesn't damage anything. Just a thought. Your ship looks amazing. Greg

Augie I wish you a speedy recovery. I am truly amazed at the artistry you put into your work. You and a few others on this forum have shown me I can think outside the box and still build a beautiful ship. I have to make sure I don't try to get in a hurry. Take care.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
