Glad to have you back on board Steve. I am sure you have a lot of catching up to do.

Lynn, You are doing an excellent job on building your Pram. Here is a link to the #15 saw blade. This company has given me good service and their shipping costs are very reasonable. https://www.hobbytown.com/15-saw-blade-exl20015/p-xuhzhcjqwqsbg4yz

Hi Hank and welcome to Model Ship World. It is great to have known the "Masters of the Craft" that you spoke of. I had one also, Frank Mastini. I enjoyed the time I spent with Frank. He would take no compensation for his time, telling me to always pass on my knowledge to other ship modelers, especially the new ship modelers. You will learn that we have a new generation of "Masters of the Craft" on MSW and you will learn things from them that will expand your knowledge. We also have members here who will be future "Masters of the Craft". I look forward to your contributions to this site.

Welcome to Model Ship World David. You have taken the right approach to this hobby by purchasing the series of beginner ship model kits designed by David Antscherl. He is a world class modeler and has taught many ship modeling techniques to ship modelers through his seminars. I look forward to following your builds.

Welcome to Model Ship World John. I am glad that you will complete this model. Too many ship models are started and never finished.

You can add the tag for the name of the boat and the manufacture by clicking on the "+Add Tag" button located under your build log title. This will open up another window. Add the tags you want and be sure to hit the save button. The moderators monitor the tags and will add them to a build log if missing. I look forward to following your build.

Lynn, Go to your build log and copy the web address of your build log. Then go to your profile and in your signature area, highlight the name of your model and go to the link icon (looks like a chain link, see Michael's post #14 above). This will open up another window where you will paste the web address of your build log. After pasting the web address, hit save. Your model name will be underlined in your signature showing that the link is active. You can highlight the model name and select the font color you want. I added your model link for you as I wanted to give you the correct steps. It has been a long time since I have added a model to my signature.

Upgrade kit for 1/200 scale Mikasa pre-dreadnought model
Ryland Craze replied to Cal123's topic in Plastic model kits
Cal, I am sorry to hear of the problems you had with Freetime Hobbies with your international order. There was definitely a communication problem from them regarding your order. Several members of my ship modeling Club build plastic models and they deal with Freetime and I have never heard of any problems ordering from them. They are a supporter of the IPMS and they were a vendor at an IPMS National Convention in Virginia several years ago. I am glad that you got your funds back from them and were able to find another source for your upgrade kit. I hope you start a build log on your Mikasa when you start building it because it is one of my favorite ships of that era. -
Hi Retiredpm and welcome to Model Ship World. Mark has given you good advice. If you are completely new to wooden ship model building, you may want to consider a beginner kit such as the Lowell Grand Banks Dory from Model Shipways. You can even get this kit with all of the tool and supplies that you will need to build this model. Here is a link to their website for this kit: https://modelexpo-online.com/Model-Shipways-Lowell-Grand-Banks-Dory-with-Tools-124-Scale-Skill-Level-I-of-the-Shipwright-Learning-Series_p_3959.html You can go to the Model Expo website and sign up for emails that will give you codes to receive the kits at a savings over the advertised price. Good luck on whatever kit you should start.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
