Beautiful work so far! I do have one question concerning the forecastle bulwarks, though. Your model has them as solid structures but I have always seen them as opened, with the railing supported by pillars. Should the dark wood between the painted pillars be cut out? For example, look at the row above the green and white triangular markings. I wonder if the seven lighter and narrower vertical and slightly slanted areas are actually pillars or posts that support the red and white striped railing?

The first planking looks great! I have heard that this kit is not very accurate but it does seem to match the drawings I've seen.

Nic,
I have an old Bluejacket kit of the Half Moon. Does that count?

Cottage Industry Models offers a 1/8th scale upgrade in resin of the guns of Alabama and Kearsarge for the respective Revell Kits. The site hasn't been updated in years, so I don't know if they are still taking orders, but the site is still there:

You might want to try to contact them.
I have both of these sets. They are mixed media. The gun carriages are resin. The barrels and eyebolts are metal and look great! The remaining blocks are wood.
I am using mine in a nearly complete accurization of the Revell CSS Alabama. By the way, has anyone seen reviews of the Mamoli model?

I'm currently working on the defunct Constructo HMS Pandora (24) and have had a hell of a time trying to correct the bow. I would love to see a better kit of this historic ship!

I don't know . . . I have been reinforcing masts for over a decade and my masts still look great.

The only Sea Witch kit that I know of what the old Scientific Models kit, which is long since out of production. Restoration work is challenging to be sure, but we have some members here who can give you pointers. A clipper like yours is one of the most difficult ship types to rig, so they will probably also suggest some reference works for you to peruse.
Good luck on your project!
Scientific manufactured a wood solid hull kit, as did the defunct Marine Model Company of New York. Marx produced a plastic kit with a steel deck. Lindberg modified the Marx kit to include a plastic deck.
What are the dimensions of your model? If it is the old Scientific or Marine Models kit, I can supply parts to you if you would like. I have several of each kit.

Hi Mark
That's a very interesting build. I notice, that the kit is produced under Amati's licence with some changes. I'll be most interested to hear how the new guns look, the Amati gun carriages being a major weak point in their kit. I really like the Amati copper plates and hope you'll get an equally satisfying result with that tape.
Question: Are the Bellerophon and Elephant variants also included?
Enjoy your build!
Peter
Peter,
I remember way back when MS produced this kit. They advertised that the Bellerophon and Elephant options were not available in this kit. 'Tis a pity that MS did not include these options, and that they have ceased producing this kit.

Olha,
Beautiful work! How long have you lived in New London? I am just North of there, in Oakdale.

Jamie,
Beautiful! I have two of these in my stash. You have made me look forward to building one.
I do have three suggestions, however. The first is to use copper tape cut to the proper length and width for the lower hull, unless the lower hull was painted. The second is that, when you are rigging the shrouds, they should go through the lubber holes in the tops, not around the tops. And, finally, try planking your own deck; it will look much better than the printed one used by Scientific.
I hope that my suggestions are not too cruel. You did a beautiful job!

Marc,
I am impressed by your carvings, but I am more so with your main deck. You handled the gratings extremely well!

Excellent job! Did you sew the sails yourself or are they commercially available after-market products?
