  1. Thanks everyone for stopping in. ASAT the smoker is nothing fancy it is just one the propane ones from Cabelas. I can put a pic in if you want, no problem . I know how you feel Brian, I have too many kits also, I told myself this is the last big kit I'll buy.........now I just have to define big kit .
  2. As if two builds are not enough here is my third. I just received this last week, it is MarisStella's latest kit, and was going to wait for awhile but could not resist the temptation to start her. I wonder with the name Stefano is it a him? I won't go into the history but it is quite interesting and there is a book written about it. At 1121 mm long it is going to be a big build, it has copper plates and photo etched brass fittings which I believe is a first for MarisStella. As always with MarisStella the kit looks incredible, wood seems excellent and all laser cut pieces are on quality plywood (some of it being Finnish Birch) or solid walnut. Some features are: double planked hull walnut/lime double planked deck walnut/lime over 260 m. of rope in five sizes over 800 wooden fittings(blocks, deadeyes etc.) 38 brass sheaves ( 2 & 4 mm) four different sizes of chain 34 sails 14 sheets of plans Clearly it is going to be a great build and I am pumped up to get started. I got a leg of pork in the smoker and all fridges are full of refreshments so come on over, it's going to be a long ride but a goodie! Here is the contents:
  3. No problems Mike it ended up helping me out, but cost me $80.00(I found more ``must have`` items). Skip I use mainly the medium and the little tubes( you can see in the pictures above) that attach to the bottle. They just slip on and last for a fairly long time, I just leave these on all the time and never put a cap on the bottle. The thin ca I only use to repair cracks or breaks the thick is used when I need a little more time before it sets.
  4. Mark, Thanks for that link. I just ordered the adaptor from Micro mark, hopefully that works with the blades I have
  5. Thanks Dave. I swear by this method and have never had any issues with doing it this way.
  6. Thanks for stopping in Ian, nice work on your Catboat. The bow is fairly blunt so I have already added a joggle plank, which is partly my fault for not paying attention as to what I was doing but it is all turning out pretty good. Right now I have 8 strakes on the starboard and eleven on the port side done. I should have enough done for a small update soon. Good to hear you are back on the Vicky again
  7. Hey Mike, the blade is a 80 tooth, unfortunately it is the finest blade Proxxon offers. It cuts thin strips fairly good as long as you have the proper hold downs in place. The blades that Jim Byrnes sells have a 1/2" hole whereas the Proxxon has a 10 mm hole. I have the ones from Jim but still have to make a bushing for them in order to use them. To clean the "gunk" in your blades use some spray on oven cleaner, I have been using that for years now and it works really good.
  8. Hi Lawrence, Thanks for your comments. Yes that jig is a lot of help cutting strips, certainly makes things more accurate. I have use it a few times now and am very happy with it.
  9. Hi Spyglass, thanks for the advice. Thanks to you and Mike I have the stern extensions repaired, and I beg of you to keep watching and correct me when needed. It is always a good feeling to know someone is watching your back. The rabbets are done already, although, I did not take a very good picture of them and they hard to see with the mdf. I don't plan on using pedestals for mounting, I'm not so sure how I am mounting her yet but I will keep you informed when I make a decision. I have read about the gun strips and the fun involved with the installation of them, I really can't say that I'm looking forward to them. I'll be following your log and probably stealing some ideas so I'll apologise for that now.
  10. Hi Mike: Thanks for your comments and the welcome into the Swan club. I am glad you pointed out the stern extensions as they have been bothering me for sometime now. They have since been corrected and I will post pictures later. One question I do have though is what size lumber did you use for your anchor stock and what length? I am thinking of trying that also but would like to practice off boat first. I will look into the TFFM books, although I have spent my allowance on some upgrades to my tools so they may have to wait for a bit. The NMM plans really are beautiful I first seen them in your build log and have since bought them and have them framed and hanging in the shipyard. I thought they were a pre-requisite to being part of the "club" Thanks for your help and feel free to step in anytime, always appreciated.
  11. Good morning David: Thanks for that, displaying shouldn't be too bad as she is only about 3 inches longer than the AVS. Your daughter must be one happy gal knowing that the Connie is moving in with her
  12. Sounds very interesting Joe, would you mind posting a picture?
  13. Hey Chris, how are things with you? I think this one should be a lot of fun it's a matter of splitting my time between both builds and hope things work out. As for the storage space I have a basement that I am renovating into one large display area that I'll hopefully finish some day soon. Until then the dining room table still has room for two or three more .
  14. Hi Bob, Thanks for your encouragement it's the masters like yourself that help push me on wanting to do things better.
