  1. Alright here is the last little bit for tonight, the making of the knightsheads, planking the bow and how I measure the planks. Then finally how she looks before the "final touches" which I will show tomorrow. Have A good Night
  2. Here I am showing the grating, the seat supports and the making of the oars. The only changes here was to add the cherry strips to the oars the seat and I also made the seat supports. The ones you will never see but what the heck
  3. Clicked wrong button at the wrong time, don't want to miss this oratory. Just showing the start of planking, the making of the seat and the first little bash an anchor. And John, that is just a small portion of the grass that you can cut
  4. Ok, second instalment and not quite in order but anyways. These show the forming of the top gallant rails on these ones I soaked the planks first then clamped them in the form and blew dry them with a hair dryer waited until cool then laminated them together together and put back in form. If you notice in last picture there is a lot of tweaking to do to make them fit and now with two planks laminated together this was all but impossible. So..............I gently placed them in the garbage. The next round, sorry no pictures but almost same process, I edge bent one plank then installed it on the boat, bent next one THEN laminated them together while on the boat, worked real good. Lesson learned. So Mike if you are reading this is where my sanity level is
  5. Haha John, you have me smiling with the grass comment. Trust me, you come waaaaay up here I'll let you cut the grass and you'll love it too. And yes she is a interesting and fun little build.
  6. Hello Bob, Thanks for dropping in. She really has a nice shape, simple but still has her complexities. Wow, that was a big word for me!!!
  7. Hi Dave, I'm really starting to like this cherry I thought of using Swiss pear but being a cheap Canadian cherry won out. Yes, this scale is awesome. I'm trying to do a few little extras, Thanks.
  8. Hey Mike, moving and tools packed away.....I would normally say to come up here for awhile but you mentioned something about keeping your sanity so I'm not so sure it would work out . Thanks for dropping by
  9. Thanks John, astro turf would be nice somedays but for the most part I enjoy cutting the grass. This time of year when I have to put the bagger on the lawnmower to pick up all the leaves is kind of a pain though.
  10. Thanks Ian, yes the wood I milled myself and the black stuff(lol) is sandpaper #30 real coarse but takes those edges down very fast
  11. Squaring frames and fairing, only one frame needed minor adjustments, and adding support strips Support strips added now planking frames and bulkheads The first of the changes of wood, here I am using cherry for the bottom. It is a flat bottomed boat. looks good and a real treat from the normal planking. I actually finished this and still wanted to do more, how often do you feel like that? Normally it is burn out and you are looking for a drink...........ok no burn out but I still had a drink . That's it for now I need to go outside to plant and cut grass. No the grass doesn't grow that fast, planting grass in garden area then it's cutting the existing 6 acres of grass. It's not that bad, I have a zero turn lawnmower that helps it go faster. The only problem is you need both hands to operate the lawnmower so no smoking or drinking, so for the next 4 hours I'll be health conscious. More to come soon
  12. Hello all and welcome to my build log of the Batelina by MarisStella. I have just completed this kit that I started about 2 1/2 weeks ago and I will now show you the complete build. I decided to hold back on a log thinking it would save some time as I went along, and to give a complete log in a couple of days. I took on this build after seeing it being built in MarisStella's log here on MSW, and as all my other builds are months if not years from completion I wanted a "completion" in a short time so the Batelina fit that bill. If you are looking for a real bang for your buck this little kit has it all, the materials are excellent and the skills needed to complete her are far from the beginners level. She is a great little kit to practice your planking skills on and short of rigging and cannons has pretty much all the challenges of a full size ship just at a different level. The past couple of weeks have been a lot of fun building her and I have defiantly not only learned new skills but have also honed other ones. I think anyone needing a break from the more complex builds in your life and looking for something on the lighter side this kit is your ticket. And, no, I am not a sales rep for MarisStella The kit comes with walnut planks to complete the boat and although they were perfectly fine to use I decided to do a little changing and used cherry wood on some parts, and I also added some little extras( I think just to further stall from going to my other builds) The contents picture is missing a couple of bundles of planks which I missed putting in picture \ I am not sure why all these pictures turned out blue as they were taken outside. Test fitting the frames and transferring rabbet line to port side. My daughter and granddaughter were not near as excited about boat building as me....???? go figure
  13. Hi Mark, well I'm not sure really what to say but she really is impressive and your work is beautiful
  14. Very nice Dave, she'll have her place on the shelf very soon. Have you ever checked into resistance soldering? Very pricey, but I think that is the way to go. Here is the place www.americanbeautytools.com that sells them, daverow(here on msw) uses this and swears by it
  15. She looks great Ian, very well done. Your daughter will be very happy. It is is always refreshing to take one of these little "side trips" once in awhile and you spent your time well .
  16. I agree, he(B.E.) does blaze a trail that is hard if not impossible to follow. It is fun to try though.
  17. Looks good Mike, I agree with your decision with the scarpf joint and and top and butt planks. When she is all finished there will be so much to look at that they would go unnoticed and would be hard to see at any rate. I recently had people over at my house and about the only thing noticed on my models was the all the "strings" Great work
