  1. Hi Max, As JPett have said; Corel is very good in quality especially in wooden parts but feeble in instructions. In fact, I don't know if for all kits of this brand, this decision is valid because I am a beginner with an advanced Corel kit, Berlin. They should consider anyone who buy an advanced kit has to be an advanced modeller. For that reason, the plans of Berlin may not be completly satisfying for me. Corel's beginner kits could offer more detailed plans, I don't know. For Berlin, at every step I have to calculate all next steps for not being suprised ahead on the way... I had thought that to be a beginner with an advanced kit was suitable for me, it was an inexpedient decision but knowing myself; the building time is too long and obstinate I am, I had thought that I could determine my limits and find some way to handle and in the case of failure I could leave the build of Berlin... It was more a will of struggle with myself than a desire of proving the self-confidence... At that time I had not been a member, so I had not seen the all fantastic builds, the masterpieces in this fabulous site... Now I know that I had had the courage of an ignorant... Sorry for the long text but what I can propose is that if you have a confidence in yourself, your skill, determination, patience after looking and observing all fantastic builds and precious knowledges in this precious forum you can choose any kit you want, knowing now at which attitude and altitude you can be (Please Max, don't exaggerate!...)... In these conditions the only thing you haven't is the experience... Do and see!... The important is to build what you want, do not waste your time with a piece that you don't love, do not pretend to be building... Time is precious...
  2. The result of your labor and skill is very nice and the contrast between the colors... Like also the clean and clear workmanship of the figurehead provided by the kit I suppose, there are no burrs... Fine quality...
  3. Looks really great Matt... You stay in silent during some period... Then photos and about the 25% of the build had been finished... Will the whole ship be completed in 4 pages?!...
  4. Sorry Sjors, I had wanted more pictures before you ask for them, in hope of being promoted as the equerry of the Rear Admiral...
  5. If the fundement, the inward was good, the skin, the outward would be perfect... Very nice, very shapely... Want more pictures...
  6. It's ordinary, familiar maybe boring for you to read at every turn these praises about your mastery that you deserve completely but I have to repeat at every update...
  7. It looks very nice Randy... There would and should be always something which doesn't go completely perfect.
  8. Ahoy JPett, Finally you had returned to your build... Pleasure to see you again here, in your struggle as Augie said... The best is the ennemy of the good. Important is do not miss the good while running after the best... Your decision about making ports as square looks quite right to me... Thank you really for giving a second chance of following your great build.
  9. Hej Theo, In the situations like these, I prefer to joint two parts not in straight line but in an untidy line with white glue. After this I make some small jags with the point of a blade begining from the main part to the adjunct part following the grains of the wood. Then with some stain I darken the jags which seem now like grains... I wet the area a little then perform some work with sandpaper. This work may break the dominant eye-catching wiev of the straight line between two parts.
  10. Hi İlhan, Thank you for the kind thoughts which come from a quite complete craftsman, really from a master... You are at ease at the other, parallel fantastic universe of scratch, far away from the anxieties of scales, mistakes etc. of the kits... but in the depth of unnumbered complexities and difficulties of the scratch building...
  11. Hej Theo, Even if WVH is my chilhood love, I couldn't betray my pretty Berlin... I should do everything I can do with her... There would be nothing for each other to think after us... She has to be finished first... Otherwise she would be left somewhere at the first corner...
  12. Hi Ian, Sure there is no limit about your details... Are you thinking about some traces of some grease burnt on some parts?!...
  13. Hi Adriaan, It seems that Occre is very good in quality... And there is good start in quasi-open air... And thank you for visiting my Log, dropping there 21 Likes in a day, examining it from head to foot... Appreciated very much!...
  14. Hej Theo, Thank you for your interest... After reading your info I checked also these dimensions and ratios... You are quite right, the scale of WVH is app. 1:36... and it's not that dramatically far off... And I could believe now with a good few kits, the scale one way or another is not completely exact... Now that's done... I am happy with the result about ratio... I wouldn't calculate the scales no more... I must just do it, build her!...
  15. @ Nigel, You have caught a good point my friend... I had referred also Model Mariner, a member who had been building Berlin in scratch, following the plans of course... He had told me that my Berlin's scale seems 1:40... He had checked like ChrisLBren, the original dimensions against the model's. Then the scale approximately is 1:40... @ Keith, Hi Keith, I had shocked by their answer... You are right, with a scale of 1:40, WVH would be huge... @ Mark, Hi Mark, That was one of those days that I was angry with myself, that I was telling to mysellf to stay away from perfectionism... I had thought aloud, sorry to make all of you pay attention... That has happened above its purpose... About the scale problem, after all those comments I decided that in fact, the essential has to be the consistency of the scale between all parts of a model. The scale in one way or another, 1:40 or 1:50, has to not matter. The importance is that for example while the scale of a cannon is 1:40, the figurhead also must have the same scale... In addition to what you said, maybe they want to use some common parts in some kits of different ships... It's another reason of not being a perfectionist... It makes me happy if I know the errors previously rather than I meet them afterwards... Thank you again for your interest... @ Hamilton, Hi Hamilton, Thank you for your thought my friend... That had happened above its purpose... I had thought aloud... Sorry... There are a lot of things to do on my Berlin... I had not bought WVH, as I had been and am a beginner, the price had been determinative... You are right, Corel's parts are good in quality... WVH is their flag ship... And she is a beautiful lady and like my childhood love...
  16. Hi Keith, You are completely right about how the intrinsic behaviour has to be... About WHV, ChrisLBren was the first person who had given notice to me... He had been building Corel's WVH. I don't know if he is going along now... And after I had learned the scale is 1:50 I had referred to Corel. They had answered me via e-mail as I had written in ChrisLBren's Log: Hi Chris, I have asked the scale problem to Corel ( info@corel-srl.it ). Here is the answer: "The right scale is 1/50. Sorry, there is a mistake on the leaflet!!" Very interesting situation... A product of a model manufacturer (modelling is based absolutely on the scale) is still being sold with a basic error... http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/2782-wappen-von-hamburg-by-chrislbren-corel-150/
  17. Ahoy JPett, I had missed your presence at MSW... I hope everything is okey for you... For my part, I'm okey... I always hate to leave, to give up in the middle of the way... What I wanted to say was that I have to stop myself getting into a competition with masters... I was just thinking aloud... Time to time in my life, when I allow myself to get carried away, I feel that I must be reasonable, to stay in my limits, to stand aside from perfectionism, do not desire the impossible... It's not only for ship building but also in all domains... That's all... I am ashamed for expressing myself not quite right... But I'm happy with this rhetoric because it served to make you finally be visible...
  18. Hi Nigel, So gentle you are... Thank you for your thoughts, they are so kind... I have not any judgement for leaving MSW... There are fantastic friends and members in a fantastic world... Now I realize after your post that I had expressed myself too dramatically and those were just momentary thoughts I had shared... And thank you again... I am happy of building a model ship, of being here and nailed to MSW...
