  1. Congrats on reaching 100 pages! Each page has been a treat. Thanks and keep up the amazing work!
  2. Hi Vivian! I really like every one of your build choices - you have good taste!! For the detailed carvings you will be doing, you might look into the Dremel bits and techniques that bird carvers use. Way to go Jack! Edited to correct my grammar in case a certain English teacher finds her way to this thread!
  3. Thank you Steven, Cristiano and Vivian! I have worn out the like button reading through Woodrat's build log - thanks for the reference. All the pictures you posted there Steven are a lot of help too. Thanks for the hints on internet searching Cristiano - I had just been using "carrack" and was getting limited results. Vivian - It is you I need to thank (or blame!! ) for getting me excited about building the carrack next after posting your caravel build log. Thanks!
  4. Congratulations Garward! I'm glad the judges were as impressed as we all are with your ship! Great job! Best wishes
  5. It is a great build. And Happy Birthday Michael!
  6. Hi Michal, I hope you are well. I sure would like to see more of your amazing build. Great job on the turrets!
  7. Hi Matti! Love the middle picture in the last series - it looks so 1:1!!! I wouldn't be surprised if the Vasa museum asks you to display your ship at the museum when you finish. Your hard work at getting the paint shadings just right and getting the very subtle 'wonkiness' of the ship so perfect, have elevated your build to a level beyond what I would have thought possible at this scale. Truly masterful work! The rope work is looking flawless. Best wishes
  8. Hi Michael, My avatar is our dog, Buster, and he is a lovable little guy. I think the consensus is that your artistry trumps any deviations in accuracy. You had me hooked with the scarf jointed planks and 3 sizes of nails back on page 1!
  9. Hi Michael, I understand your frustrations with this. That being said, what you have created here is just so amazingly stunning that it stands on its own for the work of art that it is. Hang in there!
  10. I'm doing research for what may end up being my next build: The plans for this shows keel joints which seem odd to me. The non-staggered butt joints at the stem (pointed at by the pens) seem like they would create a weak area that would not handle pounding seas very well. The angled splices along the bottom seem a potential weak spot too. Does anyone know if the jointery shown on the plans is correct? I was thinking that the joints would have shoulders to help prevent joint movement like this: Also, would one expect that the rear cabins be built using timber framed jointery like medieval houses of that time? Thanks in advance for any help. The castle-like appearance of the carracks have a whimsical charm that really appeals to me.
  11. Thanks for the kind words Jack! I'm getting closer to setting up my dry dock. Was just searching for my drafting lights...
  12. Lol about the green tea! Love what you have done with this one! The last few photos are really nice. Best wishes, Buck
  13. Hi Michael! Your execution of the small details is amazing. Each new thing is a real treat to see. Keep up the terrific work! -Buck
  14. Josh- Maybe you could find a nice used sewing machine inexpensively on your local Craigslist. I've been getting frustrated with hand stitching. If it only had to look good on one side... Getting caught up on your log - your Sharpie is looking great! Hi Lawrence! Always nice to have you stop by. I guess I need to get cracking and actually do some boat building! I could use more hours in a day!
  15. Holy moley Keith! Thanks for all the likes during your re-read of this log! The job plus my 'new' house is taking a lot of my time lately so I've been slacking a bit here on the forum. The house is a bit of a fixer-upper since we couldn't spend too much without selling the other house 1st (which still hasn't sold yet - aargh!). I started to set up the drydock in an upstairs room, but now I'm thinking about a room in the basement instead, which happens to be right next to my music room and a bathroom. I could stay down there and hide out indefinitely! The upstairs room has a Pergo floor which would make finding dropped parts easier while the basement room has a deep pile carpet. I never back down from a challege! JSGerson - There are chickens around here! We came across several houses in the middle of residential neighborhoods while house hunting with chickens in back. Josh- The Sharpie is a smaller scale (1/32?) so you would need to make some really tiny creases. I don't think I would attempt the hand stiching at that scale or at least not the same pattern/style. I fell in love with Hopeful's Sharpie Schooner a while back and was then forced to add one to the ship locker! I'm so weak! Thanks for stopping by! Best wishes,
  16. Thanks Bindy, Michael and Lawrence! I wake up to a great view of Pikes Peak every morning and it is such a nice way to start the day. The shipyard is still a little ways off and will be slightly scaled down. I'm planking this weekend, but up in the attic! Thanks for all the well wishes! I'm more than ready for some boat time! Best wishes,
  17. Hi Matti! I'm running out of new ways to say how much I like your ship and admire your skills! Whenever you add new details, the overall effect is much greater than the sum of the pieces. Your Wasan is already more captivating to look at than the 1/10th imho. I can't imagine yet how much cooler this will become with ropes. Amazing work! I haven't had any luck finding Landstom's book. Is it only printed in the Swedish language? Best wishes!
  18. Thanks Ferit, Augie, Lawrence, Mark and Keith! Although there is a lot to do on the house, there will be lots of sawdust in the dry dock! Augie - I'm in the north part of Colorado Springs.
  19. Thanks Robert! That's a handsome dog in your avatar - Shepard mix? Hi Augie! Hope you have been doing ok come hail and high water!
  20. Woo-hoo!! We have a house in Colorado now! It will probably take a month to unpack the 3 pods and get a dry dock established, but that's ok. The view from the deck:
  21. What sort of sorcery is this? You are truly a gifted magician!! Your skills and kindness give us all something to aspire to. Best wishes,
