  1. OC has been putting me to shame with his build, and I’ve been pottering on small bits.

I did up the Tamiya/Pontos high altitudes gun directors knowing they really are not that accurate until I found the North Star ones I knew I had to swap them.  Not an easy build but amazing detail.

You will not even. Price on the next post but I replaced the 44 inch search lights which unlike Tamiya and Pontos actually look like the real thing.

  2. I must concede, I’ve bought kits from Russia, HK, Japan and bits and pieces from all around the globe and never had a problem. I’m not even sure where my Vendetta came from.

I lile buying direct from North Star as he is the manufacturer and his stuff is unique. There’s an Aussie called Randall Wilson who I follow on FB who painted nearly all the box art for 1/350 and 1/200 kits for Hobbyboss and Trumpy, if you look up his stuff he also scratch builds some magnificent warships.

My my wife thinks I’m something of a nerd but there really are a lot of us worldwide.

  3. Feel free to join in, if you use the Pontos upgrade you’re better off getting the Prince  of Wales as that’s is what they designed the PE for (and it has aircraft for it unlike the KGV. You have the option of 1940 to 1943 that ways. If you want to do the 44/45 version you’ll need more AA guns for the modified boat deck.

  4. Same, the stuff for their DDG was just horrible, I’ve taken to using Tamiya rattle can Primer on big bits of PE after I wipe them down with acetone.

This is is an easy fix as I’ll just dab some little bits of black and red and overspray again with diluted grey.

Glad to see you on this forum as I believe youre from @cog ‘ s part of  the globe so you can instruct him as well, and you can join our next joint build later this year.

  5. I’ve made a start on the upper hull. A little bit of a wash to bring out the highlights on the hull plates I scribed in and degaussing cables. I then gave it all a light dry brush of white to highlight everything. It actually looks a lot better in real life.

I have to do some streaks yet but im going to wait until I’ve done the Walrus Catapult as I have to scratch build the ends which were not included in the kit (or upgrade set) and a solid shields amidships.

  6. Dirk, I completely agree, I suppose the issue is with the Internet photos are copied everywhere without references and it becomes impossible to find their original source after a while. Russian sites are a wealth of information for photos but as I only speak one language I have no idea what their captions are.

The IWM site is not really user friendly for searching. The AWM is a little better, and since the death of photobucket a ginormous amount of reference material has died never to be replaced.
