  1. The fiddle block attached to the lower mast tops. These violin blocks are just beautiful, stropped and served with some 0.25mm black thread. I have to do the liners next. I originally had the kit supplied kit violin blocks which I filed down and opened them up to insert sheaves, but just cannot compete or could not reproduce these. Next: It took me two days of studying the AOTS to figure out how to figure out the order and method of the next lot of shrouds and backstays. I've finally got my head around it but it's going to be a major exercise in rigging far more challenging than the shrouds on the lower masts. I spent two days with my little model shipways ropewalk making up the shroud lines in the correct thickness.
  2. I got some very wise advice from Danny a few years ago, take the off for as long as you can so you can do the rigging more easily
  3. Nice pumps, I scratch built mine as well but I'm discovering that the handles grab onto every bit of rigging line now I'm up to it!
  4. The first one is a violin block which is a lift for the main yard not two blocks joined, the second is the sheeve which is used with a tackle to pull the upper mast up into position and then a fid (a small wooden chock) is placed through a hole in the bottom of the upper mast which sits across the cross trees to hold it in place and the tackle is removed.
  5. I thought I had just about completed the lower masts. I completed the Futtock Shrouds and hooks with ratlines, made up my Euphroes and crows feet using some 2mm blocks, (the crowsfeet will need some wax as they're fuzzy0. I discovered that i forgot a Mizzen Stay which is painful as it will be fiddly serving it. After I fix this, what do you normally do next? Which mast in what order?
  6. Question without notice, are you going to rig the booms? I'm putting off the stuff on the sides (anchors etc) until I've finished the masts.
  7. Wow, I mean wow, Frolich would ask you to make stoves for him. You sir are one of the true artists on the forum.
  8. I recommend the 9mm double blocks for the jeers. Model shipways don't carry this range though. www.clasicmodel.com
  9. Yes they do but the AL supplied ones are so rough you can work them to a fairly accurate rendition with a file. You can see from the bowsprit photos they come up alright.
  10. I then placed weights on the blocks to place them under tension so the fall is correct, then stained them which stiffens the rigging line so when I finally get around to the yards they will sit properly. Come on chaps, more Endeavor photos. the Glad Wrap or cellophane is my very cheap version of dust off.
  11. Mast head block, jeers and mast head jeer block lashing. Again in beige so it's easier to see at this scale.
  12. Stained black and double stropped, with a beige rigging cord, I prefer this method as it is easier to see what I'm doing before I stain it black.
  13. I've decided we Endeavor builders have been slack! well, it is football final season. I finally sources some new double blocks from Poland at Clasic Model (which is were I believe that JB model got his before he disappeared from the World Wide webb). really nice product and good customer service. Time for the jeer Blocks.
  14. Try making one from flattened brass wire. Have a look at page 1 of my build. Bash it flat with a hammer, drill holes at either end for the side of the cannon, one in the centre for the support strut which you can solder another nail as a support, then file the edges, then blacken or paint.
  15. Mate you are prolific! Such a fast build, well done.
  16. Lower ratlines Complete after several days of non stop sewing.
  17. I made bulkhead frames of the sheer line plans from the AOTS, then planked them over after waxing the edges so they would not stick. It made it far easier to do clinker planks that way. Once I have finished the masts and standing rigging I'll do the yards with the final boat being slung out with the mast and yard tackle. Then finally the anchors to hide the sins of the uneven foremast deadeyes ;-). Then maybe I'll get around to making a stand. The antique glass shop cabinet the admiral bought me (see previous posts) will be its resting place besides my dust covered Heller Victory which started this madness off.
  18. I was planning to show my Endeavour a few years ago but needless to say I'm taking forever to finish (10 years now). I did join them once and have been to a few shows. Jano's parquetry was spectacular. I seem to be on night shift every year it's on so I keep missing it.
  19. Ratlines! Three days work to get the Starboard side done.
  20. Cool, you've been published! Being landlocked in the ACT we don't get such events.
