MONTAÑES by Amalio
VACorsair replied to Amalio's topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1751 - 1800
OK. I have come to the conclusion that Amalio isn't building this model himself at all. I believe that there are 1 inch tall boat-wrights that build this model in the middle of the night. I'm sure that I see there tiny foot prints in the sanding dust. That's what it has to be!! No one can work that precise in that scale!!! -

Is it just me or is everyone else amazed at the fit and finish he achieves with every piece and joint? -

Is it possible that there is more detail here than in the full scale version!?!! 11 out of 10! -

Rossi,Does your name have anything to do with MotoGP racing and Valentino Rossi #46? Just asking because I am a MotoGP fan.

Only a 26 point spread between the top 5 riders. Could be a good second half of the season!

I never saw a MotoGP race but I rode to Mid Ohio twice to see the AMA races in the late 90s and early 2000s saw Nicky Hayden race Duhamel and that bunch. Good fun. Camped at the track. Crowd was decent both times.

Hello from the Colonies ... Ontario, Canada
VACorsair replied to albergman's topic in New member Introductions
Frank, I love the way you used material, and pieces that you had on hand. Methods and processes that you wouldn't find in a model building handbook. All from you own eyes and brain. Computer heat sinks! That type of building to me is gift that not everyone has. It's a type of genius in my book. Great stuff Frank! Stan -

Frank, Great to have you on the forum! I am head over heels with your Trojan build! It is fantastic! The little information you gave in your gallery page only wet my appetite to learn more about how you used composite decking and welders mask glass and etc. Did you use any drawings? Stan -
Very professional job! Museum quality with the display case and the installed lighting!! I would love to see a subdued lighted picture in the case with the model lighting turned on!!

April 10, 1963 - USS Thresher tragedy
VACorsair replied to torpedochief's topic in Nautical/Naval History
Anyone ever notice that in the "Spy Who Loved Me" movie the "kidnapped" American sub was hull numbered 593? I wonder if that was intentional... -
Wulf, Let me know when its done!!!

April 10, 1963 - USS Thresher tragedy
VACorsair replied to torpedochief's topic in Nautical/Naval History
On the positive side: The Navy's Sub-Safe and Level-1 material control programs grew out of the resulting investigation and research of the Thresher disaster and there hasn't been a workmanship related USN submarine disaster since. (Not counting the suspect Scorpion incident). Hand Salute to all the submariners on endless patrol. Senior Chief Stan USN Retired -
Excuse my ignorance, but is that screen shot above from a computer game? If it is, what game is it from? It reminds me of the Wooden Ships and Iron Men board game.

What are these? does anybody knows? thanks.....
VACorsair replied to BIGMAC's topic in Masting, rigging and sails
No, no, no. It's obvious that these are "spud" sails and these are merely potatoes. Now that that is settled I'm going to have another few beers. Cheers y'all! -
Patrick, Very interesting build, research and discussion. Learned so much in just one page!! Sailors' salute to you and everyone that contributed to the discussion so far. Stan

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
