On your home page go to more, then to articles and databases go to framing and planking. Scroll down several pages and there are some good line drawings showing the lay of the planks to illustrate what Dan relayed. What was relayed about appearance of first layer is very true its easy to put lipstick on a pig-filler-sanding-and voila a beautiful planked hull.

Hobby lobby has a set of 4 or 5 small hand chisels run about 16 to 18 dollars perfect for what your doing price is right. Takes a little longer to hone the edge after all its not a 75 dollar chisel it resembles what Carl posted

Jud, Enjoyed the video, should be mandatory for high school history and 1st year college history students. Lot of information packed into a short video, narrative was very good. I love the saying "LEST WE FORGET". Again thank you for your service it was a bad time.

Micheal, Have been on MSW since 2013 I have never seen (builds I have scanned) such a complete informative and educational build log. The narratives and pictures were like I was sitting beside you as you built. From this point on I think I will try to mimic the effort in my logs in the future, it tells the complete story. Cannot add any praises you have not all ready received beautiful man just beautiful it really is awe inspiring, and falls under a museum quality build KUDOS.

If you do not want a saw sans attachments Harbor Freight has a 4 inch table saw that will also cut angles for $ 38.00. I have their cutoff saw am going to purchase the table saw and their 4 inch belt and disc sander and there scroll saw. Granted these are not top of the line tools but for limited budgets there perfect. At some point when my skills improve I would might consider upgrading. Have never had a problem with Harbor freight. Proxxon and Byrnes are fine tools and have there place but spending that kind of money does not make you a better modeler.

Marcus, Chuck Passaro and Dan Vad had some tutorials on sculpy I saved Chucks in favorites but cannot tell you how to get there. I am sure they would not mind a PM. Had the same problem was doing intricate carving for a stern piece for a war canoe I joined the dumb and dumber club had hrs. into it was using basswood finally it splintered when carving a circle. RE: dumber all through this forum I read over and over NO BASSWOOD for carving to soft, well being smarter than everyone and having a large ego I paid the price. Sculpy for me on my project.

Got mine from china thru ebay $ 1.83 if I remember free shipping about 11 months ago took a gamble because of the price thought it would be trash fantastic little beings they grab and hold handle a lot of tension -
Lawrence, Had no Idea what tools to purchase and asked questions-Mark Taylor and Giampiericci gave several suggestions. Being light in the pockets I wanted a $ 7,000.00 machine for $ 50.00 settled for a JD700 nail manicure machine $ 59.00 has forward- reverse -speed control and a foot pedal, very nice for the money.

Steven, Yes I did, a wealth of information especially the history, religious aspects, and native beliefs. Making several changes of the build based on my reading. Thanks for the heads up on the book. Am way behind have not been able to touch canoe or finish Victory (Boss has had some surgeries and I am her nurse housekeeper and cook). She really hates the way I wash clothes she has her procedure 1. soak pre-stains 2. spray stains again before washing. 3. correct amount of bleach. 4 Correct amount of water softener. 4. correct amount of laundry soap. I'm kinda dump pour wash I don't mix whites and solids anymore that's another story. All's good hope to start again this weekend and update with pics should be interesting, right off the bat made things harder for myself than I should have. Had several DUH moments will be in my post. Thanks for keeping up.

Forgot to add the # 1 reply they tend to use I don't know it was my fathers it was my grandfathers a friend passed and his wife gave it to me but it looks good run away. In the end if you runaway allot you will save big bucks and won't feel like you were scammed which is becoming Americas pastime run run run!

You really need to look at the Dremel Micro 8050 I have bragged about this drill continually I was reluctant to buy it because it has a built in battery absolutely no problem to date holds a long charge when not in use i place it back in the charger. This tool is amazing $ 85.00 can get a drill bit into most places extremeley light, I have done 20 minutes of continuous HEAVY sanding still charged will take all attachments with right collets, light enough for carving its absolutely amazing.. They have other battery dremels where the battery is not built in but they are bigger and heavier. Most people are put off because of the built in battery glad I went ahead and bought. Use for all jobs inside and outside the home not encumbered by extension cords.

Always ask if it was stored in an attic or outside utility room if the answer is yes run away. If they are vague runaway. how stored is the #1 question I know some folks are honest on EBay but it is loaded with scammers that know how to tweak there descriptions

Keith, Just caught up on the log, you actually have built a masterpiece. Your work is absolutely superlative, The precision and time you spent machining all the brass hardware, construction of the hull and masts is awe inspiring. The perfection of your sewn sails sets it all off (all this in a little over a year jeez give me a break). Hope I live long enough to attain a 25% of your mastery. Man just fantastic.
