    So far so good Bob. I've had a couple stupid errors recently that had me rebuilding ships. It's a real pain and a huge disappointment but the lessons are worth learning. I really like this style of building. The final look is very authentic. I look forward to seeing more.

    Now the other rail is complete. It's been a productive last couple days. I still have some hull work to do namely the deck stanchions and cat heads. I think i'll start on the masts as well though.

    Thats true but I don't think those flounders are very edible now. Make for great wall art though.

    Well I was able to get one of the rails done. I was hoping to have both done but apparently one year olds don't need sleep. All well there's always another time for ships. Here's my progress. Actually I think the rails really accent the windows.

    Thought I'd pop in on your build as it seems you were a good friend of John but I have yet to really explore your stuff. Incredible work. The lights idea is very ambitious. I've only done it once and I used only one LED. That was hard enough. They will sure bring the ship to life though. I like the idea of the straws. That looks like it's working well. Good luck on finding the problem. I'm with Sjors I can't wait to see it all lit up.

    This is weird. I actually understood that. Sounds like a good plan actually. I will keep it in mind next time I attempt to plank a hull. I look forward to seeing the progress. I'll keep the popcorn machine running while you put on the show.

    This makes me incredibly sad. He is so very kind and thoughtful and an excellent craftsman. There was rarely an update in any of my logs that wasn't followed by John giving me words of praise and encouragement. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Fair winds my friend and God be with you till we meet again.

    I believe that ship was called the Ug. Which was Cromagnon for "floaty log thingy with branch that catch wind." JK It amazes me as well the variety of ships that appear on this thread. Especially the ones that evade the google image search. Also I've heard tale that the giant rubber duck thing, that has yet to be properly identified and or confirmed in this thread, is appearing in the USA sometime soon.

    You..a rogue?...Naaaahhh Oh yea and make mine a root beer, light on the sweet and heavy on the bite. Some how this comment gave me a strange image of Sjors dawning the clown suit popping out of a closet in the corner of the forum and shouting, "Supplies!!"

    Agreed Half the reason I read these forums is the pop corn jokes and you know who's doing you know whats.

    Thank you Popeye. This one is turning out to be a lot of fun. Michaiel - To some extant yea. I've been able to get a lot of detail on this ship using my printer. The windows on the sides and stern as well as the name are all printed and glued on with some paint touch ups. I like adding the detail just to see if I can.

    Beautiful work as always! I love what you did with the deck planking. Absolutely incredible.

    Thats a great bottle to start out with. The opening is nice and wide. I did a kit similar to this only it was simply a pirate ship. It was a lot of fun to bbuild and i learned a lot. I look forward to seeing how this one goes.

    As a matter of fact I didn't. The hatches I made by staining a copy of the plans then cutting out the piece and gluing it on. A trick I learned from Greg Alvey of www.folkartinbottles.com. It was part of his build of the Bounty.

    At least you gave it a try. Most of the guys in my club look at what I do and say. "Better you than me." Well I got the cannons done and I still had bit of sanity left so I added some hatches and a capstan. Now that my sanity is totally shot I'll call it a day.
