  The green will match the head and the stern.  I’ll use the same paint on those as I did the base.

And, the starboard side:

The Port Side hull decorations are on:

The hull needs a bunch of minor repairs and some touch ups.

I also want to make two more pieces of trim on each side because I think it would make it look better.

Then this side needs sealed and highlighted.

I am pleased though, this looks like an Elizabethan galleon now.

The Revenge is starting to look like a galleon:

The hull decorations are approximately 50% complete.

There are still multiple wales, and the Admiral’s Walk doors, to install and then there will be many touch ups to make before all this is sealed and highlighted.

Important note: the pattern work is all cutouts that came with the plan set.

I wish I could paint that well two-dimensionally.

The Army Painter Strong Tone quick shade has been added (that’s what created the antiqued patina to the lower hull):

I’ll add the highlights once I get the rest of the hull decorated.

The starboard side is base coated.

The gunport sills are made and installed:

Once everything dries, I am going to finish the painting of the hull itself (read the yellow ochre stripe across the gundeck).

Then it will be time to add the rest of the hull decorations!

Making progress on the gunport sills:

I have 4 left.

This is the first time that I have ever incorporated them in a model before.

The ladders may just not have been shown on the models.

It would not be logical for there not to have been fixed ladders to access the quarterdeck and the forecastle.

I checked the inboard profiles of the other 18th century Royal Navy vessels that I have and did not see ladders between the main decks and fore and aft decks either, so my guess is that the ladders were just not shown on the plans.

I would personally add them as needed.

After that, the ochre stripe!

The first round of hull decorations is on:

I realized that I have a lot of paint touchups that need done and many gaps to fill.

That will be the next step.

I need to make gunport sills.

Once those are in place and painted black I will seal the entire model.

Then, I’ll paint the yellow ochre stripe across the gundeck on back onto the Admiral’s walk.

Then, I can complete all hull decorations.

After that I need to make my big stern carving, which will probably be made in three to four different pieces.

I use a scalpel to shape everything, including the square and octagonal portions of the masts and yards.

I just shave each section flat as needed and rotate the piece to make the next one flat.

I just make small cuts to prevent splitting or other errors.

It works quite well for me.

On the subject of yards and masts, a couple years ago, I ended up with a case of bamboo kitchen skewers.

They make most excellent yards and the thinner masts.

I have used them in several models now, without problems.

It cuts easily and the grain is dense enough that you don’t have some of the issues that you run into with dowel rods.

I have made cannon and other smaller parts from the skewers too.

The only thing to watch out for is that bamboo has joints in it, since it grows in a segmented fashion, which are equivalent to carving a knot on regular wood.

One must be careful carving across them on longer pieces.
