My local IPMS chapter is having a T34 group build.  A deceased member left a large number of 1/35 Tamiya T34 kits to the club so several member decided to have a bit of fun. My contribution is a bit different because I decided to use a 1/72 T34 kit from the stash and display it on a enlarge Advanced Squad Leader playing piece for the specific tank.  Here is what the playing piece looks like.

Each of the numbers and letters have value in the game. The 76L is the gun size. The 16 is movement points ect.

Here's the work in progress.  I need to adjust the background color. It needs a bit more yellow. The font isn't exact but close.

The plan is to mount the paper on a nice wood plaque and add some scenery such as grass tufts and a bit of rubble.  Now to finish the tank and adjust the base color.  I have to figure out what to do for the bow mounted machine gun. It was captured by the carpet monster...grrrrr....

Use a piece of a paper clip.  Paint it and no one will ever be the wiser.

  2. I got pieces of heavy-ish cardboard for at least two of the decks now.

I will need between three and four decks total for this one.

There are two internal gundecks and then the weather deck, with a forecastle.

I might drop in an orlop deck too, just for structural integrity, which would be the 4th deck.

  3. The Magenta is definitely going to be built in exactly the same fashion as my model of the Hannah, hull wise.

I acquired the box that it will be cut out from, today.

The center keel and the bulkheads will be made from pieces of tri-wall corrugated cardboard.

That will be heavy enough to hold the shape of the hull in a modified POB fashion, especially considering how big this one is going to be.

Cutting will commence when I finish the Revenge.

  4. Firstly, relax.

You are an excellent model maker.

    You have surpassed many already.

This is well within your capabilities if you decide you want to make your own shrouds and ratlines.

I made my own shrouds and ratlines in all the completed logs in my signature box.

Please feel free to use them.  I use my online build logs as a digital notebook for myself so I can recall exactly what I did and how I did it while building a model.  Maybe they can help you out as well.

In my Prince de Neufchatel build log, I talked about making the deadeyes and discussed techniques so I would remember how to do it.

At the scale that you’re building at, I would buy a large number of smaller deadeyes.

I cannibalized some of the deadeyes from my HMS Victory kit for the Hannah and bought a bunch for the Solferino.

You’re going to need at least 60 for the lower shrouds (15 shrouds on each side x 2 deadeyes per shroud x 2 sides).

Ratlines are time consuming but totally worth the effort if you are so inclined.

I learned most of what I know about rigging from Wolfram Zu Mondfeld’s Historic Ship Models.
