  1. Yes, that's correct. The length between the perpendiculars is 923.44 mm (approximate 3ft)
  2. The building board for my model is finished. I use a design really similiar to that what Ed has shown in chapter 4 of his HMS Naiad build log. For my building board I used 12mm birch plywood. The base board has a size of 120 x 50 cm. For the supporting bars I've chosen a height of 10 cm. On the baseboard I screwed 4 boards from 6mm birch plywood to fix two aluminum rails because I don't have a mill to cut the gap for these. For the centerline I inked one longitudinal edge of the middle plates with black acrylic paint. After brushing the surface with white acrylic paint the center line was made visible with a scalpel blade that was dragged along the edge.
  3. Mike, you don't missinterpret AotS. If I look on your last picture (plan copy) I think that the replica will be build as French ships would built. The deadwood and the only use of double frames looks like it was drawn in the book "The 74gun ship" by Boudriot. As fas as I know -but in the forum are a lot of people which have more experience with American ship building- it is common that American ship would built in French and English tradition.
  4. Alan, it's holiday time and I used it to reread your log. Your journey for reengineering the 74 gun ship is excellent. I like especially your 3D skills, which I don't have in the moment. It makes it much easier to check your reconstruction and avoid mistakes. I hope that you can make sawdust in the near future.
  5. Looks like you had a good start building your model after the long period of planning - it's exactly the same stage I am in the moment. I wish you a lot of patience and success for your build.
  6. The coppered hull looks fantastic. I like especially that you don't coppered the false keel, what was common for this time
  7. All frames are drawn and I started to build the keel. Thanks for your interest and and a Happy New Year
  8. Be careful with black paper. I've the exerience that the gluing is not stable. The problem is that paper has different layers and the wood glue will not go through all. I prefer black pulp, which I found in an hobby store. It has only one layer.
  9. Really wonderful model. I got a lot of inspiration from your work. Thanks for that
  10. Welcome to MSW. I will follow your log with interest.
  11. I can only second the comments of the others. Really wonerful work, Karl
  12. You're absolut right, Mark. Order is order. I only got the order to finish my sloop, before I start another project. So I am very happy with my admirality
  13. Mark, I don't know if you've written something about this. But I don't have any idea, wha do you do the whole work of a POF model (or a Hahn styled frameing) and plank both sides of the hull? The planking job looks really nice
  14. Really wonderful progress, Albert.
  15. Mick, a Swan class Sloop is really a nice project.
  16. I second the compliment of the others. I find it very interesting what you do with the color on your model. I got a lot of inspiration from this.
  17. Space is something which is allways insufficient. It's the same with the time. I made the mistake some years ago to think too much about the space my models need and forget to build one. So I have space but no model. If you like to build such a big model perhaps also as POF do it. You will need several years for the research and the build and no one knows what happend in the meantime. Hope you understand my denglish.
