Great job Harley. I've just started my Missouri and hope that I can at least come close to your results. The kit will demand patience and a lot of planning. Just a quick question regarding the sequence and positioning of the main deck photo etch stanchions. I just cannot see anything about the proper sequence from bow to stern and vice versa  in the supplied manual.

To me most of the point is gone even though I am bad at spiling and bending.

Of course it might bring more folk to the hobby

    What's your view

Your reference to building in plastic sounds a but condescending. I hope it was was not meant in this way. Scale models in any medium can lead to works of art or end in disaster. After building with wood for many years I've returned to the plastic medium and the skill set required is no less demanding than that  required of  the wood medium. It is just different.

Thank you Ponto for your opinion.

I've been told that the model has an old look, just like if it was an old museum model, with a lot of stories to tell. I like what i have achieved in that sense.

There is no robot work in here, that's why those irregularities. And as you said, they give an "old" look to the model, wich i like a lot.

    Thanks again.

    Greetings.

All the accolades should be pointed at you for your achievement. While I appreciate builders who have the skills to achieve a look of clean perfection in a build, I admire builds that show character without looking sloppy. In some cases this may be more difficult to achieve than the "clean" look.

I wasn't around here at the time of the old forum, so I haven't seen your build log before.  Other than some slightly irregular decking seams, I can't say that I can detect any obvious errors that you mentioned.  On the contrary, your photos of the transom and the ships boat show that you have some areas that are very well done.

I haven't seen many ships modeled with clinker style planking, as it appears to be a rather hard detail to master, but again, it looks like you did a credible job of that also.  Your sails are also shown to good effect.  Overall, (despite some errors that you claim to have made that are not readily visible to me), your ship looks quite well done.

While my intent is not to begin a debate over decks and how to finish them, I personally was drawn immediately to the wonderful effect of this deck finish. It looks fantastic in my opinion and the small irregularities in the caulking leads to a more natural look that adds character to the  model.

  5. I can appreciate the input gathered from such a poll but I'm rather puzzled by it as well.  In order to answer the questions accurately I would think that a person would have to have experience with each brand. I can vouch for the kits by Corel as  good quality and with decent plans but lacking detailed instructions. Whether or not these are better or worse than other brands, I cannot justify in saying since my experience extends only to a couple other manufacturers.
