  1. Great photos, Andy! It's interesting to see that they already had enclosed wheelhouses at that early period. Most British coaster of the period still had their officer of the watch out in the nice fresh air. John
  2. Sorry, Mario - 1964 I was at sea. Not many movies out there (at least not in 1964 ). John
  3. Good thinking, Mark. By the way, is it camera distortion or does that top ebony strip have a slight upward kink just forward of the forward gunport? John
  4. Popeye, Do you raspberries growing wild? Pretty cool! We only have blackberries growing wild here, and you have to be very careful as they're a noxious weed and the bush might have been poisoned!! Hope everything is OK with your mate in Canada! John
  5. Thanks for the local knowledge, Andy. Do you have any photos of these ships? John
  6. Don, Back in 1900 ships weren't specially built as bulk carriers. Sailing ships had large open holds (usually only one), which made them ideal for bulk cargoes without alteration. The picture below is from an old postcard and shows ships awaiting coal cargoes at Newcastle NSW around 1900. John
  7. Yes, Brian, especially when they were done by the Mermaid's commanding officer! Trove is always worth a look. You'll find reference material there not only from the National Library, but from major libraries all around Australia. John
  8. Popeye, It seems appropriate that you should be a Commodore - after all, you always have a whole squadron of ships under your command! John
  9. Moo, If you'd like to build her historically accurate, there are two illustrations of her by Phillip Parker King available on the National Library's Trove website. I've attached lower resolution copies so you can see what they're like. John
  10. Great! Another project by Mario! I'll just pull up a chair and enjoy the show, mate! John
  11. Great news that your custom bending setup worked, Mark! John
  12. Nice going, Mark! Oh, and the OH&S manager says, "Are you wearing the mask"? John
  13. Augie, You were in hospital for "a few days" and it's nothing serious? Just get well, mate!!! John
