Looks really nice, Bob. I'm not familiar with American fishing schooner rig. What's the angled strap from the mastheads and down around the topmasts? John

All of the "standard" frames are now fitted. The next job will be to fit some stringers to stiffen up the hull before I tackle the stern framing. The first of the stringers - the deck clamps - have been roughed out and roughly bent ready for fitting. Once they're in another set of stringers will be fitted along the turn of the bilge (roughly), then the next job will be to work out the stern framing. John

What sort of thread are you using, Les? Dilute PVA is usually invisible when it dries. John

Les, try painting them with diluted PVA glue. Just dilute with water about 50% and see how it goes. John

Bulkhead Fairing Questions
Jim Lad replied to Jon219's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
If you're going to fully plank the hull then a shim, if needed, can be of virtually anything as it won't be seen. Whether or not a shim would need steaming or soaking would depend on the type of wood and thickness you need. Give it a go and see what happens. John -
Alister, Both these photos show ships in port. The following photo is of a ship at sea (Loch Tay 1869). John

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
