Here's one for the pattlewheelers
captainbob replied to steamschooner's topic in Nautical/Naval History
Thanks that brought back memories of watching the boats on the river at Marietta Ohio. Also visiting the Howard ship yard. The oldest continues operating shipyard in the country. If you ever get to southern Indiana they have a great model steamboat museum. Bob -

Popeye, The three booms with all the rigging would be quite a challenge but when she was converted to the Pequot they only left one. Oh well, Maybe the Gen. Samuel Mills will get built someday. Good story Ben. I guess the better question, for me, is why do I keep being distracted with the modifications that were not on the model I am building? I have to keep in mind, I am building the version that is pictured in the overhead shot at the start. Bob

This is the website that tells it all. It was put up by chipaz in phoenix. His father served on the Pequot and I'm sending him pictures as I build. http://indicatorloops.com/usn_pequot_plans.htm There are complete plans for the Samuel Mills which was turned over to the Coast Guard and converted into the Pequot. I remember seeing two Footys being sailed on Lake Michigan in water so choppy I would not sail my One Meter. But the little Footys were doing fine, bobbing on top of the water with no water inside. Bob

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
