  1. ALWAYS essential to keep the Admiral happy. Mine just noticed the 'torpedo hole' on the starboard side and proclaimed 'I hope you're going to fix that' !
  2. Hard work is really paying off. As anticipated, there's only one thing that scares me more than pneumatic tools around a ship model ...... and that's when I see the numbers 59, 60, 61 ad infinitum penciled in.
  3. Continuing work on the quarterdeck, the waterways and margin planks were prepared from Swiss Pear and installed P/S: Although the deck will only be partially planked (to leave visible some aspects of the gun deck and Great Cabin), I wanted the margins all around for the sake of appearance. Next was to prepare the lower stanchions for the quarterdeck rail. The simulated sheaves are 'functional': Aligning these lower stanchions behind a deck beam requires that they match the curvature of that beam. To assist in this, a photocopy of the rail was made and attached to the beam: The stanchions were then glued behind the deck beam: The planking of the starboard side of the quarterdeck (up to the centerline) may now proceed.
  4. Little gal is growing up. Just a quick comment on masts and yards. Get as much of the fittings done off the ship, where possible. I find it makes life a lot easier.
  5. Well said, Matt. While a little off topic, I just wanted to say that I find it a true delight to look closely at all the different versions of a given kit. Even when the builder is basically following the practicum, differences in interpretation begin to appear. I'm not talking about the difference in skill level or the use of after market improvements. But after a few years, you can almost tell who the builder is by the overall appearance of the model. In essence, you see not only the model, but the builder. Each and every one is different, yet the same. And all are special in their own way.
  6. May as well take advantage of extra pairs of eyes to set your mind at ease. I'm sure you'll give her a secure berth on her trip to the meeting. I know one fellow here on MSW had to make a quick stop on a similar adventure and the results were unfortunate. I'm no expert but the run of the planks looks very good.
  7. I'll say. In fact maybe I'll trade you 36 finished guns for the woodwork on the head. Nice.
  8. They look to be hanging nicely Popeye. Really well done. Perhaps you should consider early retirement and open up a ship's chandlery!
  9. I've got to climb up on the soapbox with Andy. The ship building understanding of kit bashing is totally different from that in model aviation where a bash is turning a known design into something else. An F-22 biplane would be a good example. This definition is consistent with the terminology used in model railroading. But, this IS a ship building forum so I'll abide by the commonly used meaning here.
  10. Glad to hear AG will be in place until completion. I can't keep up with all of your fleet at the same time
  11. No problem, Sal. Getting good information is part of what MSW is all about. Somebody always 'knows'.
  12. Chuck carries a quality line of ship fittings and accessories. Check here (it's also on the Forums page): http://www.syrenshipmodelcompany.com/
  13. Yes, Chuck's cannons really look good. Hated painting them but I cheated a little bit and left them brass on the muzzle face. Was tempted to do them like Mobbsie....leaving them brass the last quarter inch to the muzzle. You're the Cap'n ! It's a great kit.
