  1. Damned the dust....full speed ahead!!!!! Love the railings. Breech lines look good !
  2. Yes, those blocks are tiny! The guns are looking good. So do the coils. Next time around you can do a 74!
  3. Great news! Follow orders and you'll be back in no time. Pharmaceuticals .... that was my career....so ENJOY!
  4. Congrats on your perseverence. And the best of luck with the hip surgery. We'll keep a light burning in the stern gallery for you.
  5. I'm laughing because I'm in the middle of doing the same thing -- edge bending bow rails. But they're not going on 'til next week. Did I mention there are already one or two in the 'scrap box'?
  6. Just wanted to mention, John, that a TV channel called 'Smithsonian' ran a documentary here in the US on the cultured pearl industry in Australia going back to the late 1800's. They showed some clips from the 20's of the pearl luggars and I felt right at home after following your fine log.
  7. Neither can I. But let me ask an even dumber question ---- what was the practice on the real ships of the period?
  8. WELCOME ABOARD, MaryO. Glad that you've decided to share your voyage with us. You've chosen a good subject to model at this point in your 'career'. I'll be looking forward to the lapstrake construction. By all means, take your time. Wooden shipbuilding is not a race. Work at your own pace ...... and ENJOY!
  9. It's nice to see you back in the fray. Funny, you mentioned my favorite movie ---- 'Twice is Not Enough' !
  10. Great to see you making headway under some difficult circumstances. I think we all know how outside influences can effect our building progress. View from overhead is impressive!!!
  11. You've outdone yourself, Popeye. I wouldn't tackle that rig for a million bucks!
  12. Dirks log also listed a vinegar/salt mixture that seemed to work quite well. And I've seen some take off the shine with dullcoat. Mine's been coppered for about 2 years now. I didn't do anything special and the color is darkening/ageing naturally. Let's all touch base in 25 years and see how they all turn out.
  13. Very nicely done. Are you going to leave her with the brite finish and wait for it to naturally age or will you be treating the plates at all?
  14. She looks just terrific, Rich. Don't fret the 'almost invisible' stuff. You, and most of us, know it's 'there'. WELL DONE, MATE!
  15. I hadn't realized that about the color schemes.....but it certainly makes good sense. I wonder if the Portuguese did something similar on their cod dories? Thanks for posting that comment. Amazing what you can learn here on MSW.
