  4. And a very nice bit of kit that third hand is! The large wood clamp is a nice add-on. But what, pray tell, is the masons' symbol lying on the bench? Another repair job?
  5. Good question! I actually gave the upper edge a soft-edged 45 degree bevel, as I did for the wale below. At the time, this is how I saw/interpreted the Bellona and other contemporary models' style. Perhaps there were variations depending on the shipyard.
  6. A masterful restoration of that ladder! Good to see you back at work on Albertic, Michael. Mentioning a BA threaded bolt takes me back.... I still have a pre-war supply of BA nuts and bolts in brass from my father neatly stored in old throat lozenge tins.... But, I digress.
  7. If it's any help, I used the fully planked contemporary Bellona as my guide for a 64 of 1781: just one black strake, unpainted as shown. Can anyone say that this is incorrect for that time period?
  8. If you were to reduce the lowest band of planking nearest the bow and adjust the others, you may be able to plank without drop strakes.

  12. I agree with Wayne that aggressive wrestling of a plank into place is no substitute for careful spiling. It invites problems down the road.

  15. Are these holes aft of the riding bitts? If so, that is the likely solution.

  19. Alan: TMI = "Too Much Information". Direct pressure refers to keeping pressure on a workshop wound for five minutes to stop the bleeding. Of course, accidents like that never happen! Now, back to the Bellona thread!
  20. The closer you can bend the plank to its final shape, the easier the process will be. Greg's progressive gluing from the bow rabbet aft is another useful technique. Large rubber bands and shaped softwood blocks often work where clamps refuse to go.
  21. No so much a band or two, as a collection of whole orchestras! I had no idea that there was so much hardware attached to a wooden main yard during that era. Beautiful work as ever, Ed.
