  1. I'm not sure there is a one-size-fits-all formula. I drip enough water in to get a consistancy of somewhere between milk and cream. Not to thick, not runny. This is defninetly one of those "experiment.... and then experiment some more" things to get it to where you want it to be.
  2. Håkan is right. Start simple and small and build your skills from there. There's no such thing as a "big no-no".... just a learning curve.
  3. Welcome to MSW, Rico. Those are two nice models.
  4. Thanks everyone. I picked up the yelow ochre this morning and am continuing clean up. I don't when the next update will be see as I have meetings at the hospital, etc. and things to get set up before I go in.
  5. I've tried those settings also and my PC and laptop drop off at times. Not consistantly though. But then, I'm using Windows 7.
  6. Thanks for the well wishes. Rusty, that's what I've been hearing from others and it's good to hear it again.
  7. Have you tried mixing a very small amount of water with PVA (white glue)? I find it gives me an extra bit of time to fiddle with the parts. I'm using Elmer's Glue-All (not sure it's available where you are).
  8. If you're using Windows (depending on the version if I remember right) there's setting to turn off "sleep" mode or whatever they're calling it these days. It keeps the screen, HDD, and processor running.
  9. Been tempted on the drinks, Jeff. Andrew, I tried that and no joy. So, painting is the option. I'm giving thought to the yellow as Glenn suggested that also. Looks like a run to the hobby shop tomorrow in the morning. I'm going to try to get this "fixed" ASAP as next week is going to be busy. I get my new heart valve on Thursday.
  10. That would probably work also. I'll add it to my options.
  11. Well... I've mad a dog's breakfast of things. I had to move rails down as I indexed them on the wrong mark. Got out the isopropal and started then disaster. Seems the alcohol caused the acrylic black to run. For damage control, I'll put the rails back on where they shouild be and then fix with paint. I'm thinking blue to match the line from the galleries forward to the bow and then black up to the blue. <sigh> As I fond ot saying...."crap happens".
  12. Welcome to MSW, Greg. If you haven't found it yet, we have a lot of discussion going on in the CAD/3D Modeling area.
  13. I hope you'll consider doing a build log for this sub. Maybe just a bringing us up to date initially. Doesn't need a lot of explanation.
  14. On the bright side, they couldn't turn thd turrets towards each other either.
  15. Very well done. This is tank that I never knew existed. That's one of the great things about MSW, is learning something new.
  16. Regarding Lavery's comments about the gallery.... some sources say that the Captain often used the empty one as a private office. with small desk and a chair or two.
  17. The other advantage to glue sticks is that they don't distort the paper like a "wet" glue can. I've used rubber cement but found that unless I remove the paper and rub off the cement in a few days, it stains the wood.
  18. I would hope you'll open a build log in the kit area instead of posting in this area. This one is for introductions only.
  19. Beautiful and stunning work on the new stern. It's so much better than the kit parts.
  20. Thanks for following along.... More paint... the black this time. Needs a few touch ups but I'm pretty happy at this point. Now to sort the red and blue at the top of the hull and how to work around a few "gotcha's" like not paint where things like the channels need to be and the issue of the decorations going under some various bits. Here's photos as she sits at the moment.
  21. Welcome to MSW, Ian. There's some pinned topics at the top of this sub-forum that might help. You're doing the smart thing by starting simple. There's too many folks who decided to start modeling and bought a Victory model. Probably most of those are now gathering dust in their basements. There are a couple of builds by members for that half-hull project. It's a good starter.
  22. Steve, Welcome to MSW. Bob is right. You're taking the steps and follow that... baby steps... This site is a tremendous resource and we have everyone from newbies to masters. So builds do get abandoned for one reason or another and that's to be expected. Life sometimes gets in the way. When you're ready, start your build log and continue looking and even commenting on other logs. There's areas for asking questions and there really isn't anything like a "dumb question". We've all been there.
