Weird that the filament reacted differently. Any difference (brand? material?) between the two other than one being new?

Looks good, but I think it still needs to be slowed down for both strokes unless you're setting up for "ram speed". Once you add the scale length to oars, at this speed I think they'll be a blur but that can sorted later. Way back in the lost MSW (before the Big Crash), there was a builder who did a static ship (Roman I think) with rowing oar movement. Rather impressive it was to see.

Trying to understand white balance
mtaylor replied to Gaetan Bordeleau's topic in Photographing your work. How to do this.
Ah.. gray cards and film. Remember them semi-fondly. Was doing drag race photography for a few years back in the early 80's and then developing and printing for the racers to buy the next weekend. The nice part of digital is no darkroom work and chemicals. -
I think I'd go with what's in the photo of the Cairo since that's the ship you're building.

One of our members whom I haven't seen posting of late has this for his signature: "Do each piece as a model and at the end of the day, you have created more models than many do in a lifetime.". I may not have it correct but it has the thought. -
Welcome to MSW, Jorge. I totally agree with what Bob said.

If I remember right, the rope wrapping was to protect the oarlock (as such that it was) and the oar itself from wear. It also silenced pretty much the oar made during rowing. If all else fails, just put a cover on the boats. But then again, no one can actually say that the oars are the wrong color.

Thanks for looking in and your comments. For the most part, I'm taking the day off from sanding. Need to clear sinuses among other things.

I feel the same way Druxey does. I will add that I think our projects somehow help us keep centered and able to shift focus as situations in life change.

I think you're right about not making parts just once. I have a box full of scrap wood.... make that read; reworked parts.- 4,152 replies

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
