I was reading some on the Warfare History Network and following some links and ran into this: https://warfarehistorynetwork.com/2018/12/11/japans-underwater-aircraft-carriers/ I thought some might find this interesting.

At some point they went to nets to capture them better without the plane disintegrating. Even then, a net catch was still brutal. There are some videos were the plane caught the cable, but the aft end ripped away (battle damage?). The net saved the pilot and gunner's lives.

CH-53 Sikorsky by mtaylor - 1:48 - Revell - FINISHED

They should be in around the 10th. So in meantime, I'll do some painting on the bigger parts, maybe some assembly. Once I get the new glasses, then will the fun start... like "who the heck did this and messed it up so badly"... I should also be getting the guns around the 10th. -
You're getting close to the finish line, OC. I do like the way you're "decorating" or maybe the right phase is "setting the mood" with the painting and coloring of all the parts. Just looks super.

Indeed, OC. I had a similar problem a couple years ago. Someone screwed up the prescription such that the "prism" in one of the lenses was wrong. Double vision, headaches.... I took them back and they fixed the problem. -
Laying out plans in a smaller workshop
mtaylor replied to alde's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Since I moved into the "new" place a couple years ago, I just put a piece of blue tape in the upper corners of the plans and then run a thumbtack (the one's that have plastic part for easy in and out) though the blue tape and into the wall. No fuss, no muss. -

I had an eye appointment today (finally after putting it off). He showed me the difference between what I can see now and what I will be able to see... WOW.... I guess my eyes are a lot worse than I thought. So, I'm backing off a bit. I'll work on what I can see but leave the tiny stuff until the new glasses are here. -

With the amount of research and the workmanship, this vessel should end up in a museum.

It should also be pointed out that there's more of a selection in blade tooth count and types than with a jig saw. The thinner the wood be cut, the higher the tooth count needs to be.

Nelson gets a lot of credit for that but throughout history (both sea and land warfare) you'll find commanders who acted like him. Not all were Bligh's (or at least colored that way). Treating the men well, gets better results than daily floggings or just ignoring them. It still works that way, but many in the military and in the business world tend to forget it with often disastrous results. Couple that with excellent strategy, and you have Nelson.

Kris, I'm not sure where you are located but here in the States, the big box hardware stores (Lowe's, Home Depot) and even some of the smaller places sell scroll saws for around what that saw would cost. A scroll saw would be a lot more accurate (no blade wobble) than the one mentioned in the first post.

I guess I had limited travel experience over there. Only place I got to outside of 'Nam was Malaysia for a government sponsored trip and we were handed cash (US Dollars) before leaving. On return, we had to exchange any green left for the funny money. Slow progress in the work shop. -
Translation via Google Translate: Yeah that's good, it seems like a nice group of people here already. Sometimes it may be easier to inquire about domestic alternatives to matching paints and accessories. By the way, please. This forum uses English for our posts. If you need to, Google Translator does a pretty job. Thanks in advance.

Tustin, right. That was the base I was at. It was called "Santa Ana Air Facility" and then in 1979 renamed to "Tustin Air Facility". Here's their website: https://www.tustinca.org/765/Tustin-Hangars -

Ah yes.... I did too. First wife kept it all..... Oh well. Still working away in the shop but nothing to show yet. Anyone from the 60's in 'Nam emember this comic book: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nguyen_Charlie My favorite cartoon from them was two VC running and being chased by bullets... first frame on VC says "you know what's worse than a Spooky gunship?"... second one has a second line of bullets coming from the opposite direction. "Nguyen" says "Yes... two Spooky gunships." -
Welcome to MSW. Looking for to seeing your log and modificatons, Kalakukko.

It wasn't "funny money" stateside. In 'Nam it was though. The reason for the funny money because greenbacks were like gold over the people. And the VC liked to grab all they could also. It was weird over there with the armed guards on payday. Any one us troops usually had more firepower than the guards. Like.. ok.. I robbed the payroll. Now where the hell am I going to spend it?

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
