  1. Welcome aboard Mark. and those are beautiful models.
  2. Damn Yankee... but I'll drink to your health anyway.
  3. Steve. I never thought of B&B. Well, too late now. I've got the tool investment so might as well carry on. I did give some serious thought to reworking the plans to POF but thought while building is easier, the learning curve would be a bear. And making the frames is time consuming even if you do them Hahn style. Dave, good point. Thanks Keith. I've been relooking at some of yours and other logs that used balsa. I'm just hoping to get "clean" hull and have finally figured what tools I need to use to get it "right".
  4. Hi David. Welcome to MSW from another PNW but in the south part.
  5. Hi Mike, Welcome to MSW. We have quite a few members from Missouri here I lived there for about 20 years. I suggest you start a build log on your Mayflower. It's a great way to make friends and also get help and advice when you need it.
  6. Thanks for the likes and comments. Sanding is coming along. Rather a combination of cutting, hacking, and sanding. I have the center 4 areas in close and am starting at the stern to work my way forward. I'm sort of torn, Michael. This way is faster than frames but has it's own set of challenges. I will have "thin" the keel, bow, and stern just a tad after it's planked. I'm between 1/32 and 1/64 inch off for the planking I'm projecting to use. Yeah.. picky, picky.
  7. Christian, I think your cannons will work fine as they are. You do have some adjustment with the quoin that can used to set things perfect.
  8. Your last two photos are of the .HEIC which is not a common format. Could you change them to .JPG?
  9. Here's an easy way for that main wale. Use two planks. The first, would the thickness of the last top plank. Then laminate in place another to give you the thickness you need.
  10. CDW, If find I'm having to look twice at your photos. Are sure that's the full size motorcycle sitting on a shop floor?
  11. Hi Phil, Looking forward to seeing your build log.
  12. Beautiful work, Jim. The case really sets her off well. And yes, trashing solid oak doors should be a crime.
  13. Christian, As is common but check the monograph first, the line is for the tops of the beams, not the deck. Thus, your gun will be raised by they thickness of the planking.
  14. Call me Mark. BilgeRat is job. As for your rigging question, Allan is right. Ask this in the rigging section as it's more appropriqte.
  15. Welcome to MSW. Scottish Maid was my first wooden ship also. If you can build that kit, you are well on your way.
  16. Welcome to MSW. I'm looking foreward to seeing your build logs. Interesting topic as well as construction method.
  17. 2000 X 2000 gets reduced. I use 1500 X 1500 and that is reduced on the log page. However, clicking the photo will usually open it and show a magnifier and clicking again, opens a new window and lets you enlarge.
  18. You're correct, Christian. It should be La Venus. French frigate other than the 74 gun model are rather rare. My Licorne was the only build of that one, I've only seen a few (10 total maybe) of Belle Poule anywhere else. Renommee is also rare as is L'Hemoine. Yours is the first La Venus build I've seen.
  19. Rats.... my apologies. I fat-fingered the guns and positions. AL is part of the problem. As I understand it, they used another ship and called it L'Hermoine which they often did.
  20. If it's metal would that be to protect the carriage when traversing using hand-spikes?
  21. I fixed your title by adding POB. Is this going to be the Le Venus or is that just the starting point? If you're doing Le Venus, I'll fix the title to indicate that. You doing very well on her. I have the original monograph and recently ANCRE posted that they an additional volume for those building her. So many models, so little time. <sigh>
