Looking great, Piet. Hard to believe it's all wood and paper under that paint and not actual metal.

Marc, I suppose one could make the frames out of one plank, though plywood would be stronger and would work if the inside and outside are fully planked. I'm considering doing that way on my next build as my builds have and probably will be fully planked.

The smallest one that Lowe's has is too big for what we do. Ok..maybe not if you're doing 1:36 or 1:24. It was in the same section as their Dremel tools.

Sam, I've seen something like at Lowe's now that I've seen the picture.... <grabs credit card><runs out door> Back in a bit!!!!!!

Cutty Sark by NenadM
mtaylor replied to NenadM's topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1851 - 1900
Hope you have a speedy recovery, Nenad. Not a good thing to try to build when you're not at 100% as it becomes too easy to make big mistakes.- 4,152 replies

We actually cut out the futtocks and glue them together to make the frames. There are two reasons: 1) It does save on wood. 2) It makes the frames stronger.

Love the photography. They, alone, are works of art. You're taking build logs to a whole new level, Gaetan.

Hmm... I think you're right, Michael. The racing stripe would work on a yacht but all of the same color and in a lighter wood seems more appropriate for a working ship.

Sadly, no one makes one of those.

Where Do You Keep Your Working Plans
mtaylor replied to BubbleHead's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I'm sitting here thinking.. "why not? a great idea". You've workshop, stove, microwave, refrigerator at your fingertips. Then I stopped and thought what would the Admiral say.... -
Rick... Yes, delete them as they are still "active" even in the background. Goto: Start-->Control Panel-->Programs and Features. Once there, look for the toolbars. Highlight and click on "Uninstall". You should reboot after removing all of them. Here's the images you sent me. It appears that the site automatically resized them to the default 1600 X 1200.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
