Help for the Noobies
mtaylor replied to drjeckl's topic in How to use the MSW forum - **NO MODELING CONTENT**
This area would be a good place to start.... https://modelshipworld.com/forum/13-discussions-for-ships-plans-and-project-research-general-research-on-specific-vessels-and-ship-types/ -
Thinking outside the box is good, Glen and exploring the options is even better. Those designs do add a lot to the model to increase the "wow" factor.

It's possible there is one. Maybe do a Google search? If not, maybe a scratch project or a bash of boat that has a similar shaped hull. -

Hang in there EG. Real life and it's repercussions (but good and bad) take priority. Hoping and praying for the best outcome for you. -
As others have suggested, look for small drill bits. Depending on what company you look at, the bits might be available as a set. For example, MicroMark used to sell and maybe still does sell a box set with 20 small sizes of bits. And each size came with 10 of that size. I bought mine a long time ago and still have it. The other thing to think about is collets. Some of hand drills and also some small size power towels have the smaller collets that will hold these bit.

Absolutely stunning, Alva. Thanks for sharing how you built it. The Leon looks great also.

Welcome to MSW, Victor. Consider opening a build log. It's a great way to meet others and to get help and advice when you need it.

My mind is truly boggled at the detail. Very well done, Glen.

Thanks for the effort on the photos. Looking good. For planking, I'll turn the hull upside down on some those plastic food storage containers with a towel or two over the containers. Seems to work for me, but then I'm doing smaller scale builds. -
No rush, Bob. Rome wasn't built in a day, nor was a ship. Kick back, get done the things that need doing. This hobby isn't going away. Same applies to buying tools, etc... no rush.

HELC is nor good file format for most internet sites including this one. It an MS format that nots used by most people and is specific to Windows. Can you convert those images to JPG? -

Andrew, If you'll to the top any page and find "Group Projects", you'll see a link to the Winchelsea. Once you pay a small fee to join the group, there's tons of info (instructions) you can download. Also, I suggest you do a Intro in the Introduction area and when ready to build a model, start a log. Both are good ways to meet others and a log is the best way to get help and advice. -

Keep on trucking, EG. We're all pulling for you. I really think that our hobbies and friends is what keeps us sane and helps us fight the RL problems. -
Alva, I'm relieved and happy you are getting the translation problem sorted out. The model looks great. I don't recall ever seeing any Vietnamese models.

I'm surprised they kept pushing that late. In grade school, I was pushed not to use my left hand even though I'm left handed. The end result... I can write with either hand. Many of us learned to shoot a bolt action left-handed. Just needed to use a small trick (rotate the rifle a bit) to keep the hot brass from going down your shirt collar.

Great job on her and her air wing. I really didn't realize how small this model is until that last picture. Makes it even more incredible.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
