  1. Crop the image down a bit to focus on the joint although Fair Use does allow for posting images/text for discussion, etc.
  2. I think Lieste, Gary, and Jud are right. For a ball or shot to knock off splinters would mean that it the edge of the opening.
  3. Add the red marks/bruises on the forehead from the facepalm.
  4. Here, make it easy on yourself... just save the PDF and print. plankingfan.pdf
  5. Welcome to MSW. This site is a great resource and opening a build log will also help you along your way with researching and meeting other builders.
  6. You're probably right, Andrew. Been a long time since I did a "new" plastic kit.
  7. Good idea. The lines for the fairing will give you an idea of how much to sand. Just make sure the bulkheads face the right direction. Don't ask how I know this ().
  8. Some builder do "pre-fair" using those lines. If you decide to go that route, don't fair completely to the line but leave a little "meat" for final fairing after all the frames have been added.
  9. I do think all this work on the "new" place will be good for you and yours. As for the work.... not fun at all and the the moving has to start. Been there done that and have an appreciation. My next move will be to the old geezer home and I'll get someone else to do all the work.
  10. I suspect we all do that. The bird I did, it was choice... either the jet engines or the "whop, whop" sound of the rotor blades.
  11. One thing I found very helpful was to carve up a little guy of the appropriate size. I used the art from a ANCRE plan and as I recall, he took me less than hour to make. His "staff" is 6 scale feet tall. Not a great photo but it's the best I could find at this moment.
  12. Reminds of the scene in Master and Commander of the guy sitting on the bow seat of ease. For those who missed that bit of trivia.. it's in the trip around Cape Horn.
  13. I was thinking the same thing. And yes, I'm pulling up a chair also.
  14. I've not heard of this wood. If you don't get any responses, I'd suggest ordering a piece or two and test it.
  15. Welcome to MSW, Glenn. Chris gave good advice on where to start research. It may take some time, but usually someone has some answers. As always though... every answer leads to more questions, which is a good thing as it increases knowledge.
  16. Looks good and don't knock the speed, Sam. Any progress is good, even if it's just thinking about the project.
  17. Quite a few I believe. Depends on how you define "nearby" and what part. Go up to the top of the page and click on "More". In the dropdown, click in Community Map. You can zoom in on any part of the world and see what members are there. Now the caveat is.... they'll be there if they added themselves to the map.
  18. Welcome to MSW, Steve. Beautiful model you have been working on.
  19. Sorry hear all this, Kris. Do you have any hand tools such as jig saw, files? That might allow you work in wood. We do have quire a few builders who use the simplest of tools.
  20. Just edit the photo in Paint or basically any drawing program. Open it, make sure it right side (or rotate if needed) and then save it. If it shows up right side up in the drawing program, still save it. When done, upload the image. By perchance are you using a smartphone for photos and uploading? Seems to be a common problem with them.
  21. That's good. I was looking for a discussion and couldn't find the one I wanted that showed the various deck planking methods..
  22. Have look here at this discussoin.
  23. I believe this photo would come under the "fair use" doctrine. So it should be ok. An amazing photo.
