    Scott,
I began building that model when I was I was twelve, finished it when I was 13 (1960...whew!), then won a
1st place trophy with it the next year at a USNR model contest. Amazingly, it's still intact. I just dusted it off
last month and all of the masts and spars are in excellent condition, perhaps because for many years the
ship was stored in a wooden crate during my many moves around the country. I'm happy that you're restoring
yours and hope that one of our sons will someday treasure mine as well.

I've built many of 'em: 1/96 Cutty Sark (now a dis-masted hulk), Thermopylae, Constitution; Heller Soleil Royal (unfinished), Le Chebec
(nearly finished), Thornier Armor; Imai Catalan ship and Santa Maria, small Revell Constitution, Bounty, Golden Hinde, and Chas. W. Morgan
plus many steel-hulled ships, submarines, and work-type ships. I have to say that I enjoy working with that medium as much as working with
wood models...just love the look of ships, always have.

Interesting article. I think this type of WWI mine-laying submarine would make a great model kit.

I added more and more sub assemblies to the mix. After a bit of detail painting with a brush, the numerous boats were glued to the decks, later followed by the gangways. More figures were CA-ed to their stations. The superstructure and the mast section are not glued in place yet, as I will add some railings first. Not shown on the pictures are the anchor chains, which I blackened in burnishing fluid.

So, it's a small fish-bird about 20 feet long that is really a boom and at it's best in good weather.

My process is slowly moving forward, while the epoxy resin on the hull dries, I am making the propeller group of the destroyer.

I ordered the custom size display case from Sora Shop in Germany (sora-shop.com). Highly recommended. This one cost me around 53€ + 13€ shipment to Finland.
Thank you all for watching, following and your inspiring messages!

Thanks for the likes and all the suggestions regarding the braces for the stabilizer and wing.  I continue to defer that work.  I received the wire that I ordered and it might be workable.  But, the model also presents some problems with the attachment points for the braces on the stabilizer.  So, I am considering that as well.

Meanwhile, I skipped that step and continued on with the next steps which added the ribs to the lower wing stubs and also did some additional work on the cockpit including the instrument panel.  I got through all of those steps.  Next I'll put the fuselage aside and start working on building the two outer sections of the lower wing.  It was really good to get back into things where I felt like I was making a lot of progress.

Here are the pictures of the current state.

I am starting a new topic as the last one just got huge....over 2000 replies.

Its fitting that I would do so today actually.   Today marks ten years since I have started Syren.  Its been a long and interesting journey.  Ten years and miles and miles of rope made and thousands and thousands of blocks sold.   Here's to the next ten years.  Maybe not that long, LOL.

For a bit of news....I have finally received the parts to maintain my CNC Mill.  So blocks are on tap over the next few weeks.  In fact I have already started.   3/32" singles and doubles are now in stock.   More will follow. Although half of the 3/32" singles already sold out.  UGH!

Onward and upward as they say.

I really enjoyed this build! It was just challenging enough to be fun, simple enough to be a quick build, and has a reasonable amount of detail for its size!

Ok, now I’m going to get back to work on my longboat project…

I certainly kept my promise from the very first post of this log, that I will make it slowly 😅. Hopefully I fulfilled at least a little the other, more important, part of my promise: "to do it well"!
I want to special thank for all of the comments, likes and support through this wonderful journey! I started as a total beginner without any nautical knowledge and ended with a finished model and a lot of information and lessons learn.
For sure this won't be my last model and most probably my next build will start next year at the earliest. Till then I will try to read some books about rigging, make a display case and better photos of the finished model (the last one will happen soon).

P.S. Now I can finally back to one of my other hobbies and celebrate it properly! Cheers!
