Patrick,  As far as I am concerned, building on such a small scale is amazing, And the real benefit of that scale is it is easy to find a display space, my ships take up whole walls ...lol..

 

Hi Keith - many thanks and you're right about the display space.  In fact, the lack of space at home was the main reason why I gave up building RC ships because I was running out of room to store them.  Building miniatures, therefore, was a no-brainer for me.  Besides that, they're great fun and challenging.

Hi Nils - yep, you're right.  The Mary Jane II is one hell of a looker!  Can't wait to start building her, but I've still got heaps of work on the Majellan to go before I can start.

 

I have to agree with Keith........it's logical that as the scale gets smaller,  some detail gets lost.   you seem to ignore that rule.   I don't see any mistakes,  I only see  'adjustments to be made'  

 

Thanks Denis - I never thought of it that way, but now that you've mentioned about 'ignoring that rule', I guess you're kinda right. As far as I'm concerned, I just give things a go...sometimes it works, other times, it doesn't

HI Frank - Mmmm...The exercise room.  Hadn't thought of the difficulties of that..gulp!  Why do I do this to myself!

Hi everyone 

 

Another quick update.  I've done a bit work on the paintwork.  As I hope you can see from the glint off the hull and superstructure in some of the photos, I'm slowly achieving that glass smooth and shiny finish that I'm after.  I'll just need a few more (dust free) coats before I'll be happy with it.  Only then, can I return to detailing the interior.

 

I've also had some fun doing the four large umbrellas which are situated on the Sun Deck, i.e. two at the rear of the deck and the remaining two are over the spa.  Oh, and the twin radar domes are also done.

Hi Denis. Many thanks for your nice comments, especially about the refinements, because I always reckon that it's those sorts of details that bring a boat to life (same as for your boats, as well). Last night I did the 4 lounge recliners that sit under the umbrellas on the Sun Deck. They're tiny, but add heaps of life to the overall ship. I'm going to do the other chairs, etc, as well. More photos to follow.

Thanks Greg. I really appreciate your comments about Majellan and my new project, Mary Jean II. The MJII will most likely be built slightly larger than Majellan, but, of course it all depends upon how feasible it is building at 1/200 scale. Stay tuned!

 

As for the umbrellas on Majellan, well, they're loosely located in their respective holes in the deck. At the moment, they're leaning over rather untidily, but once they're glued in, they'll be nice and straight.

Thanks Bob! I'm slowly realising that lifting the Sun Deck off repeatedly is fraught with risk as the umbrellas and radar domes, etc, etc, are fragile and can be easily damaged. So...I'll have to be super careful.

 

Anyhow, I hope you're going well. How's the boat coming along?

Hi everyone

 

Another very quick update for you all.  I've added the four reclining lounge chairs which sit on the rear of the Sun Deck.  If you look closely (sorry about the dodgy photography on my part), you may just be able to make out two tiny tan coloured single chairs alongside one of the recliners.  Just forward of all of this, you should also be able to see the three bar-stools in  front of the outdoor bar.  Who's up for a cocktail, then?

 

Yep folks, slowly, but surely, Majellan's decks are coming to life!

Hi Denis. Funny you mentioned about the weave! In actual fact, it was purely accidental and isn't cloth at all.. It's actually thin strips of cardboard from a box of Nespresso capsules. I don't know whether you have the same boxes over your neck of the woods, but here in Australia, the Nespresso boxes are black on one side and a light gold/brown on the other. I reckoned the two-toned effect looked pretty cool, so I went with it. George Clooney would be very pleased!

Well, something of a minor milestone for me occurred tonight - I was able to do the outdoor chairs that surround a large round table on Majellan's Bridge Deck. All in all, there are ten of them. In case you're wondering why they're positioned messily around the table, it's because I wanted to give the impression of the guests just getting up to leave the table without putting their chairs back neatly.

 

The reason why I consider this to be a milestone is because I never thought I could do them....but, I persevered and voila!
