After about 5 weeks an update :dancetl6:

Because the bathroom renovation caused quite a bit of dust...The Pelican was temporarily stored behind plexiglass.

Meanwhile, a batch of new blocks has been made.

For the martnets I wanted to use Deadeyes and fiddle blocks. But with 3 ropes per sail side, deadeyes are hopeless and fiddle blocks don't fit well either.
So, the deadeyes became heart blocks and the fiddleblocks became shoe blocks (names come in Tudor warship Mary Rose)

The martnets from the fore sail are ready.  A small metal pin is used to hold them in place.

The fore sail is rigged

There is no tack on this sail.
Reason: There is no tack visible on the majority of drawings from this period. The sheets are treated with thin CA glue. Not the best method, but that's the easiest way to keep them in the right shape.

The fore topsail.

The information found about this sail is scarce, confusing and sometimes illogical.
So the most logical method that corresponds reasonably according to drawings is followed.

All these extra ropes need extra attachment points.

An attempt is made to depict a sail being hoisted. Sewn cotton has its limitations to reflect this...

Thanks Steven.

Lots of ropes indeed. One must have a good memory to remember the purpose of each rope .
Nothing for me  😉

After a constructive exchange of thoughts with one of our members via PM. It turned out that this method is not feasible.
That's why I did a live test on this model.

To the mast top, comes into contact with the top sail.

small update.
Most of my free time still goes to the bathroom renovation, luckily the end of this adventure is in sight. :Whew:

With more experience in rigging I attached as much rope to the main sail as possible.
This works so much easier and less stressful for arms and back 👍

A lot of rope work will be needed, and the space on the deck will become difficult to access.
That's why I'm going also apply the topsail and work from top to bottom.

So today not a big update, but looking back on 6 years of fun,  with an  occasional dip if something didn't work from the first time 😉

It started as a simple plan to use Aeropicollo's plans.  This was quickly given up (bad idea)

There is little information available for the rigging of these two sails.
So i look and compare, and the way that occurs most is used.

Nice work, mate. The railing pieces are really starting to come together.

I'm not terribly surprised by the guy's area of study - in the Texas A&M University master and doctorate papers regarding maritime discoveries all come from the Department of Anthropology.

The swivels are placed on the model.

It is easier to drill these holes before applying the rigging.

But without installing the rigging first I don't know where there will be room left for the swivels.

The anchors and accessories

First study about how they might have looked like.
Source the Gresham ship (top right) and the Mary Rose. And sketches of anchors, anchor buoy anchor david, blocks.

The anchor david
One of the Mary rose has been recovered.
He should have remained afloat for a while after the sinking of the ship. Where it will come on this model, no idea yet.

The anchors are made of 3 layers of styrene (total 2.5mm thick)

After cutting, filing and sanding, this is the provisional result.

The shank of the smallest is still a  little too thick, I just noticed in the picture.
