A man after my own heart.......can't work without a big screen playing a motivating historical movie.  How do you focus?

I play lots of music when I build.  I have a dental chair I considered making into a binocular chair...but your application is easily just as impressive.

Great magnificent...gigantic build.

Rob, when I do miniature carving, I do not watch tv, because I really need to focus on the movement of the tool.

Since I was  very young, when I wanted to study, I turned tv on... like this, I controlled the sound I heard, and  this way I did not hear other sound by other people.

It is not all tasks which needs 100%  of focus.

I guess it is like the new thermostat for heating, it does not always heat at 100% to keep the temperature stable.

Yeah...I'm kinda that way as well...background *white* noise actually is helpful to drown out all other would be distractions.

With all that said......I'm still very much impressed with the actual size you decided on with this build........so much room for so much detail.

Continually watching.

Gaetan,

First of all, I'd like to say that this is an amazing project, and the scale you've chosen is very admirable! I'd love to have the space to build a 74, let alone a 74 at 1:24!! I've been watching this build log with awe and a slight bout of the "green eyed monster"!

I build and paint in the lounge/diner of my 1 bedroom flat, so I'm used to working with the tv on in the background. I find I can focus better with the background noise because I'm consciously blocking out the noise (this has been described by the Admiral as "Boat Brain"). I find music is too distracting as I tend to hum or sing along and then break focus.

Anyway, well done with this AMAZING build, and I can not wait to see the 74 progress further.

Cheers

Jonny

Here is my latest jig.

Until I saw it in my head’ I could not do it but I saw it so I did it.

The problem : I have to do grooves at regular intervals. It is done in the idea as the gratings are done but with an additional difficulty the width  is larger than the tool.

1-    the guide fix the left and right limit of the groove

2-    the guide for the spacing of the grooves

3-    the table slides on the guide rail 1

would it improve your jig if you were to put guides along the wood near the number 1?

When I see this jig, I almost instantly think 'good idea, but how can you ensure that when you move the bottom part, you move it perfectly in line'?

Hope I make myself clear - if not, please don't hestitate to ask.

Under the table, there is a large groove

left side of the groove is the guide for 1 end and right side of the groove  guide for the right end of the groove

if I want to do the left limit the square guide rest on the left side of the groove

if I want to do the right side the square rest on the right side of the groove

I begin with the 2 limits

then the middle is done freely

Gaetan, what are your planking plans this time? In such scale, might look great if not planked at all, bare frames and fully see-through from all angles :) Ok, sorry, it is your model, just dreaming :) Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on that!

Mike, I was thinking something in that direction, minimizing the planking, optimizing the framing.

Druxey, spacing goes by  groups of 3 with a reset at each group made possible.

If both frames would add together with an equal spacer between each space it would be like a sandwich at the end with plus or minus the good length.

The beauty of this assembly is that each spacer is part of the keel. For each group of 2 frames, it is possible to adjust the thickness of the spacer if necessary thus eliminating the effect of the cumulative addition.

Also, extra care must be used for precise marking not with a ruler but I used a sheet of paper with 5 group of appropriate markings and after I divided each group (1 space, 2 frames).

Gaetan, simply amazing!

I've been away for a few weeks and suddenly your model already has the skeleton almost fitted.
I liked your frame building optimization system.
I confess I would love to see a short film of your milling machine jig in operation.
Good luck with your new project.

Superb Gaetan!

You did like you were walking in the park. I suppose for the sides you just hold the wood upright. Very enlightening!

I hope you make more videos of your techniques. Helps a lot.

Thank you!
