The instructions say to drill a hole, then use a sharp blade to square out the hole for the outrigger. In a moment of inspired laziness, I figured it would be easier to round out the square piece than to try and square out the hole. Worked like a charm. However, the instructions say to build the masts and rig the upper parts before putting mast to the deck, claiming it is easier. I will try it on the foremast and see if I like the method. Notice that to get the mast to stay at the correct position, I had to use a couple of clothespins to stabilize it. Also, putting a white background behind the mast helps my aging eyes. What is going on with the top mast at the doubling......It appears to be resting on a square post? Is this the simulated stepout the mast head would have to accommodate the lower shrouds? And does not the instructions call for double deadeyes and lanyards for the top shrouds? Some rigging diagrams call for simple bulleyes and stropping...much like what you created. I'm assuming the Redjacket had varnished masts and yards. Your work is wonderful and vary clean and tidy. Rob Let's answer these in order: mast straps are 1/16" black vinyl tape, once they were all on, I sprayed flat clear over them. Yes, that is the bumpout for the shrouds. Instructions and plans are for single bullseyes for the upper shrouds. Instructions say masts are dark brown, but since they were probably greased, and since I did the red bottom it would be her maiden voyage (she was coppered after she arrived in England) I thought a little lighter finish would be appropriate. I also like building the masts and adding the ratlines for the top and topgallants off model. I found it far easier to rotate and do the miniature work in its own fice...giving far more access and ease of work. Then you can place the masts and add the main shrouds.
