Hello,

After a long break from my build log, i begin with a few pictures from my start with the rigging.

Here i mounted the bobstay, flying jibboom guy, guy pendant and travelling guy

20200307_214909.thumb.jpg.8e501c106dd8608cca5dfaf34945592d.jpg

Then i startet with the shrouds on the fore lower mast

After the fore mast was ready with the standing rigging i began the main mast.

I rig this as well as the fore mast.20200423_223247.thumb.jpg.0f34ac2f7bd38e009d808286ae6f9b58.jpg

When i was finished wiht the main mast, i didn´t like the result.

All the lashings were smeared wiht glue.

For a long time i rummaged in various forums and decided i made all new.

I got new rigging yarn and started a few tries.

So i removed the rigging.

I really enjoyed looking at pictures you provided and the journey you are making towards perfection of your workmanship. Lots to learn for me with rigging as this is something I will be doing one day on my model but it is in more modest scale (1:90).

Hi,

After i was satisfied with the samples i began with the new rigging.

The first work i do was served the shrouds

The lashings are complete without glue.

20200606_190421.thumb.jpg.b08c76293cf7ee09acb54b5cd6a76aa1.jpg

Then i rigged the bowsprit and made the foot rope on the spritsail yard

Hello,

Now I have finished rigging the bowsprit.

20200611_195615.thumb.jpg.8d7f052fdbc4b3673527427137a70816.jpg

I left all the ropes open so that I can tighten everything at the end.
With the shrouds I have now also started.

20200612_163149.thumb.jpg.0021cc48b16f4efe2b031c1bd3f4070b.jpg
I made the wooden rail so that I can get the deadeye all in one height. I have seen it in a forum and find it a very good idea.

Hi,

Now i am finished with the shrouds at the lower masts.

20200621_183822.thumb.jpg.52ecccc9bc922c80a5cf051cb72a0a5a.jpg

I have mounted an auxiliary stay, because otherwise the mast would be pulled too much backwards when setting the shrouds. This would have the consequence that when the stay is mounted the front shrouds would be looser than the rear ones and when the deadeyes are tightened the deadeyes would be at different heights.

looking good - tearing off the old shrouds must have hurt a little, but replacements look a lot better. i nearly bought the caldercraft victory but the price was wayyyyyyyy too much despite the excellent detail😁

Hello,

First of all, thanks for the likes and comments.

Clearway
No actually it did not hurt because I did not like the result.

Of course it's not perfect now either. When I see other projects here in the forum I can only marvel and try to orientate myself on this level. But in the end I must like the result.
I think if I want to build scale, such a project is primarily about building and then the result should be as you imagine it.

Hello,

Now I have a small update again.
I have now finished the futtock stave and the futtock shrouds on the foremast. I decided to use the alternative method according to the book "The Anatomy of Nelson's Ship".

Then I continued with the fore topmast shrouds.
I made myself a helpstay so that I can adjust the tension of the shrouds before the shrouds are ready.

It is quite tedious and progresses only slowly.
But I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Hi

Really superb rigging.

Can you help me and explain what knots you use to rigg blocks to yards for example? Is it just normal knot around yard and block rigging same princible as deadeyes(sry dont know all the expressions).

Hello,

For the shrouds on the mast I use a simple takling

and for the deadeyes I use a seizing

Hi Helli, I just came across your build,  I don't know how I have missed it during all this time.  That's a great job you are doing on the rigging.  I agree with you about the two books you recommended to Vahur, I have both of them.  When I came to do the masts, which I am still working on,  I deviated a bit from the plans supplied with the kit and referred a lot to 'The Anatomy of Nelson's Ships'.  It has some great drawings on the masts and rigging. I haven't started the rigging yet, and I am sure I will be referring a lot to these two books, and your build to steal some ideas 🙂.

Hello,

Of course I have been following your construction report since the beginning. There were also a lot of things I took over.👍
It would be a pleasure for me if you would take over some of my ideas.
The rigging is already a difficult task. After I removed the old one like it was so smeared with glue, I am making very slow progress.
The most important thing for me is not to use any glue at all. But this is not so easy as it is a very tricky job. You always have to sew the thread back. Sometimes you need several different needles and especially four hands.☺️
But it's fun and I'll keep at it and continue to follow other construction reports.

Hi Helli,

Really nice work on the shrouds, very neat and authentic. The rigging is going to be a challenge for me, never attempted a rigging job of the Victory's level.  The only rigging I did was on the J.S. Elcano, which was very basic, and Bluenose II which again is far from the Victory rigging.

Hello,

We have the same fate. The victory is my first ship. It's a big challenge. But you grow with the tasks.

And when I look at your work like that, I can only take my hat off to this perfection.

I have now finished the ratlines at the Foremast

I have forgotten the two main topmast tackle pendants and the blocks for the main topmast yard.
Does anyone have an idea how I can subsequently mount the reasonable?

Hello,

Before it went to the fitting of Deadeye Futtock Strops I soldered them. But with a maximum of 10w soldering iron because otherwise the brass anneals and cracks.

And again ratlines :-)

Now I have a forced break because I lost one when painting the deadeyes and I have no more in reserve. Due to the lockdown all stores are closed so I have to get them online.
But there are still enough other things to do.

Hello,

Since I have a forced break in the rigging, I started with the dinghies.
The method of gluing the frames was too risky for me.
Therefore, I have separated them before gluing to use them afterwards as placeholders.

Hello,

I have made a little progress again.
Now I have all four dinghies in the shell finished.

With the two small boats I have planked only once.

Since this is not very strong, I have applied a layer of GFK.

This is now also sanded and filled.

The decks are already made and weathered.
