We’re all doing well.  The Hannah is in storage right now.  We’re in the process of moving.

I can’t wait to get my workshop set back up.  Hopefully, soon.

Thank you all for stopping by.

I’m mostly moved in now and Hannah is in my new workshop.

Hannah took minor damage during the move.  She popped a jib stay.

Repairing that will be my first order of business.

Phil, good to see you back up and running. Sorry to see Hannah take a hit but certainly glad it wasn't worse. Moving takes a toll on everything and everybody.

I think that Hannah is ready for sails and the running rigging.

I do not think that I have missed anything.

I do know that next time I need to plan out the running rigging better.  If I am going to use one of the plans from the Hahn books or an AOTS, then I need to study a better belaying plan, or generate my own, and plan accordingly.

Thankfully, this was a schooner and not a larger warship.  I need to install deck blocks BEFORE I put in masts and standing rigging. Oops.  Oh well, lol.  We will call this one a lesson learned.

I share it to help others avoid making the same mistake.

On to sails!

I adjusted the jib sails a bit to allow a bit for variation due to rescaling errors.

I still need to make a template for the fore top sail.

The rigging is one of my favorite parts of the model.  Detailing/fitting out the hull is my other favorite part.

I wanted some thicker thread for bolt ropes, but according to Zu Monfeld, the bolt ropes had thickness between 1/3 and 2/3 the diameter of their respective stays, so…

I guess I’ll use what I have on hand.

Allan,

I might try silkspan for the Victory’s sails.  I’ve been getting more detailed and trying new techniques/materials with each model.  I’m still getting better.

Yes you are!   I think all of us get better if we keep trying new methods.    I suggest you purchase David Antscherl's booklet ($8) on making sails from Sea Watch Books before Bob closes it down which will  be sooner than later.    For Victory, assuming smaller than 1:48, there is no way cloth sails and sewing them will look realistic as there is no cloth with a high enough TC or sewing methods that will be to scale.     There is at least one well done You Tube video on making sails with silkspan, artist's tubed acrylics and matte medium with slight variations on the methods in the booklet mentioned above.

If you have a hobby shop that sells flying model aircraft, check with them.  Otherwise it's probably and online search.

I bought mine on line.    https://sigmfg.com/products/sig-silkspan-tissue     The hobby shops near me had plastic type materials and no silk span, so maybe call ahead to your local hobby shop to avoid wasting a trip.  It is pretty cheap stuff, but you will also need good quality artists tubed acrylic paints (not the cheap poor quality stuff in bottles found a few aisles over from the better quality paints), matte medium and some scrap wood to make a frame and plug that goes inside the frame.   It is not at all complex,  Follow the steps on the tutorials for the first try, then it is an easy go from there.   There is some information here at MSW including in the scratch build of the Boothbay 65 as well as tutorials in David Antscherl's booklet and You Tube clips.

I'm coming late to this party, but I get my silkspan from: www.bluejacketinc.com. Before I got a set of sails for Scud that I was happy with, I went through

5 sheets of the stuff (each sail is 3 ply). Also, Tom Ruggiero (tomshipmodel) has a tutorial on sail making. Otherwise, a nice looking craft!
