Yep the last assault before the KGL gave it up...

I always thought the French troops looked exhausted in that painting...

That's why they lost....

The reduction of Le Haye Sainte, is one of the dramatic visions of heroism ever seen on the battlefield, on both sides...

Indeed brother, I think  Wellington  was right  in putting the  KGL   in there  as they  where  battle  hardened  troops,  who   would  not  let up  defending the farm.

So  today-tomorrow   I will  be  carrying on with  my  flat - top coating  as   I still  have a  few  more French  to add, and possibly  spme more  French  I could  make up  in my stash (will  need  to check)   I aso  have   Colonel Claude Charlet   to  add after  he  has  been  flat coated.

Still  lots  more  to  do  before  the  Big  Finish.

I love looking at your work OC, and I admire and agree with your pursuit of realism.

It looks like you have abandoned the idea of representing the smoke from the firearms.  Certainly, it is very hard to create smoke that is convincing.  Also, if one is going to take realism to its full extent, one would have to include more than the smoke from the muskets and rifles.  How to create the pall of smoke that would have been blowing over the whole battlefield, obscuring your beautifuuly painted figures?!

Best to leave that to the paintings, like the one above of LHS.

Just a  small itinerary  of what I have left  to  do  (unless  I add  other   figures  latter   should  I decide  to increase  numbers)  -

Place  the  rest of my  54th - 55th  ligne  and any  injured and dead  figures I have  and can  create.

Place  Colonel Claude Charlet  on the  roadside.

Create a  few  trees  in the  Orchard.

Finish off  painting  - weathering  my  Two  Lifeguards  then place them  on the  roadside.

Create  Two  95th Rifles  to  go  against the  wall on the  roadside at the  extreme Right  end.

Work on my  kitchen gardens  hedge then  put it in place.

Work on the  section of grass  and  dirt  on the  back  section  of  the  dio.

Place  my Four  Cuirassiers  on the  other side  of the  hedge  on the  dirt - grass   I have  just fitted.

Place my  pile  of  French  dead  near the  rear  barn  door.

Work  on the  small  area of  kitchen garden  including some grass  and  soil  beds.

Place  my  small  group  of  Luneburg  battalion  in the  garden area.

Place  my  5th  KGL Line   injured  in the  garden  area.

Work on  loose  odds  and  ends  -  loose  helmets  - Rifles - backpacks  etc.

Adding  any other  figures  I can make  up  out of  my stash.

Add some  more  dirtying up  in areas,  and   work  on some  water  in puddles  or  ruts  by  dirtying them  up first.

So  still a  fair  bit of work to  go.

Have you considered, perhaps, a model smoke generator?

https://www.walthers.com/smoke-generator-chimney-ready-for-model-buildings-667-117e

This one from Seuthe has been around a while on the market and is relatively inexpensive. With one or two hidden in the base of your diorama, at strategic locations, you could add some ambient smoke when you want to.

As always the figures look terrific. Beautiful painting sir. It seems to me that there are two areas where figures fail in scenes; probably due to their relative inflexibility. Dead figures don’t slump into that final relaxation and it’s difficult to crowd the figures together. I think you have resolved both issues masterfully.
The smoke generator is intriguing

Great work

Thank you  do much Alan,  yes  I found  using some heat  from a  hairdryer  made it possible  to  bend  the  figures  to  get some different  poses  -  like  bending backwwards or  on the  knees.

Glad to see you're getting your modeling mojo back, OC. Sorry to read of your pet's unexpected death. Take some time to mourn. Even though it's a pet, it's still a part of the family.

Just a quick  update  on my  next move  on this  -  I am  still   working  on the figures  that can be placed  on the  dio  sections  done, so that   will  be my Two  Laife Guards  they still  need  painting  and  weathering before  being cut away  and  glued down on the roadway   near to the  Two 95th Rifles,  then I really need  to  think about  doing  some more  scenery  as   there  is  the  back end  that  needs  my grass  -  some  headge  near the  cottage garden  and   groundworks  in the  garden  (grass  -  soil beds).

So still   quite a bit to  do  yet   (I also  think  it needs  more French  as  there  was   loads in real  life)   these I need  to   get  as  I have used  what I  have.
