On a rainy friday I thought it was time to do something…..

The holes in the tops are drilled and no, I don't used a drill hammer  :D

Then it was time to shape the top of the lower part of the mast.

I have to make it squire and I don't have a lathe so I'll do it by hand using a file.

I think it work just fine  :)

Of course pictures of it.

Looking good Sjors

Not sure what finish I will give mine yet

The top two aren't platforms as such but just a few planks laid down

post-3712-0-72867900-1381495192_thumb.jpg

I presume they are there to hold the shrouds or whatever the ropes are that hold the ratlines are called  :P

Still more to do than you think when you look at the plans  :o

The guitar kit has arrived but I think I have a bit problem with the neck fit in the body that I have to sort out  :(

Sjors, Platforms look great! Am I understanding you have MORE Ratlines to do?? masochist!  :D

Any idea why the ship builders of the day chose to make the platforms with "joists" radiating out from the center instead of a simple box frame?

@ Larry,

Thanks you  :D  :D

But the finish line is far away…

There is a lot to do before that's happening….

@ Patrick,

Also that you  :D  :D

That black came out eel.

Between the top and mast cap , it's also gonna be black.

@ Mick,

I have also 3 of those cross beams…

And I think that I'm also painting them black.

I have to see……

@ Augie,

Thank you very much !

It was tricky to get the mast squire, but I did it.

2 more masts to go this way…….

@ Popeye,

When I go like this, I'll be in no time back to ratlines  :D

But I have only one week before I go for my whole shift…

No more part-time work anymore….

And I like it so much !

@ Dave,

Thank you !

I have used a standard drill and it work  :D

When I did it out of the hand, I'm not getting them on one line…..

@ Sam,

Also that you very much !

And yes, I have more ratlines to do…..

Maybe a little less then on the Le Mirage, but I don't mind.

But first I have to make all the masts.

And of course the bowsprit.

So it takes some time before I got there.

The joints for those tops are for , maybe, not slipping away and to drain the water.

If I'm wrong, I know that somebody has the right answer.

Hi Ferit,

Thanks.

And yes, I like those ratlines  :D  :D

For a few builds later i will found a build with 6 masts and on each mast 3 levels , and that with all ratlines…YES !!!!!! :D

Hello Sjors,

Your apprenticeship ended ages ago my friend, you cant blame the ghomes any more, they just follow orders. :D  :D :D

The Fighting tops are looking superb, well done.

If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion without getting jumped on, is it possible to square of the top of the lower mast where it fits into the mast cap.

You have no idea how brave I feel right now.smileys-beating-and-fighting-166975.gif

Speak to you soon.

Mobbsie,

thank you very much.

You are not bold but….the hole in the mast cap is round…a little difficult to make the top squire and put it in a round hole……..

The part I was referring to is the coller at the base of the round bit, it should be flat so that the mast cap sit squarely onto it.
