Found and ordered some nice aftermarket AA guns for the Akitsushima which should be here Friday. There's a lot to do before then and wanted to get the base colors laid down before adding all the small sub assemblies then some mild weathering.

I think I'll end up doing a waterscape mount for the ship seeing as how it's a waterline kit.

I think ontop of the small scale my problem might come from rattle can painting as I do not  have a  precision  sprayer  and dont think  brush painting  will cut it  - will need to study my work flow when I start  my Hood.

I agree. I think being able to visualize the sequence and the construction and painting of assemblies is a skill. The Penelope is giving me enough challenges in that area and I think I'm going to have to accept some touch up with brushes as some of the delicate stuff gets added. The Prince of Wales is going to be a whole new adventure. I may have to go back to a Hunt class destroyer to destress.

I thought the weakest links not addressed by the photo etch upgrade set were the ship's guns and boats. Bought the Fine Molds guns and boats in order to address those areas. They are much better than the items included with the kit. It's the first time I've used the upgrades from this series so will see how it goes from this point.

I modified the Pit-Road main guns by grafting a different set of barrels onto the Pit-Road unit. Overall, the replacement barrels looked more realistic IMO

This is some very nice sub-atomic modeling you're doing here CDW.  I had no idea injection molded aftermarket details were available at such a small scale.  And they look quite crisp too.  I've pulled up a chair to follow your progress.

Ammo by Mig Streaking Oilbrusher has been out for a few years or more now, but this is the first time I got around to trying it. Here I used the rust colored streaking oilbrusher to see what kind of effect I could get with it.

I didn't notice hardly any odor at all. Very mild "turpentine" type of odor to the oilbrusher, but the solvent used to create the streaking effect is completely odorless. A white spirits type of enamel thinner.

Wonder if mine was different that I got to use on my challenger tank  as soon as I opened the jar the smell  was very obvious even the admiral  could smell it from Twenty feet away  - brushing it  over the tanks surface  was very smelly  I almost had to  stop due to the odour, the only thing I could do was to try to de gas it really quickly using  the hairdryer.

Certainly a shock compared to zero odour acrylics.

I agree that what you used has a pronounced odor, but the product I wrote about is completely different. No-hardly any odor. They even have their own little brush inside each bottle.
