I saw this online and just had to get it, a beautiful little kit that has the best packaging I’ve ever seen.

These were such cool looking ships 

 

class of destroyer built for the French Navy between 1905 and 1908. It was built on French shipyards: Rochefort 9, Le Havre 1 and Toulon 3, for a total of 13 units.

 

The thirteen ships were used during the First World War. They bear the names of historical infantry weapons: Quiver, Claymore, Hatchet, Cutlass, Foil, Ax, Mace, Mortar, Howitzer, Pierrier, Stylus, Trident, Blunderbuss.

 

Thus the list in French;

Fleuret

Hache

Massue

Mortier

Obusier

Pierrer

I like little torpedo boats and early destroyers, but the key word is little. In 1/350 they are cool but small.

Sorry Craig, I forgot that you did a French battleship. Glad to see you attempting a small vessel, rarely seen in the world of models.

I think it’s going to be about the same size as Vendetta. I’m wondering about doing some Tin canning on her was well.

not enough of a focus on this era of warship........and in resin no less     should be child's play for you since you seem to use a lot of CA in your projects.  

    I've heard that regular model cements doesn't work well for resin.......I've used it on what little resin I've used and it didn't seem to make a difference.

         should be a sweet look'in model in your capable hands

So primer coat, boot strap added then the rudder (PE) and shafts. Lower hull will be green

So the kit comes with a little stencil for the ship name (TR for Trident).

 

the boot stripe is about 2mm so it’s taken a bit of work to get it right.  Now for some weathering. I  put in hull plates but they’re hard to see.

looks even smaller than Vendetta ... nice change from the huge battleships to this. The French did have some very nice shaped ships/boats, not just during the 17th & 18th century

Chris Meddings, the maker of the kit sent me his line drawings. Lots of extra details to add now in particular to the focsle. Lots of little holes to drill and add rigging points for the anchor chain, add a anchor Davit on each side and a fairlead.

The propellers, the instructions state to add some shafts then onto flat PE Propellors that would be free floating.

 

using a brass bollard and offcut pe I’ve made some support struts . I added a brass spinner from a 1/350 aircraft propeller to the end of the PE props to make them look more authentic. 

ive made a start on the PE structures whilst I was awaiting the pain to dry.

Grunging time. Add thick streaks and then thin them.

Now on the base. I’m going to add the rigging points and metal platforms next then I can start rusting her up. I did a grey overspray on the lower hull to represent a build up of grunge.

so the deck is down, focsle area done up, just need to rig the anchors then I can rig the railings. The kit has hard rails and don’t really match the line drawings.

I wont show that to my admiral  as she would be sick with envy, its our Twelfth anniversary this year and so far we have not been to a beach together.

That's really nice done at such a small scale. It breathes the atmosphere of the early 20th century. I see the ship plowing through the waves of the Atlantic like this!
