This build seems like a logical extension of my now completed Mk IV male tank. The Whippet was tested as a prototype in March, 1917. With a crew of three it had a maximum speed of 13.4 km/hr.  First arriving in service in March, 1918 they enjoyed some success.  According to the background supplied by Meng, in one battle seven Whippets wiped out two entire German infantry battalions. On August 8, 1918, 96 Whippets took part in the Battle of Amiens alongside Mark IV and Mark V tanks. A single Whippet became cut off and over the next 9 hours single handedly destroyed one artillery battery, one observation balloon, the camp of an infantry battalion and a transport column.

Late advice might be worse than none, but it might help next time. I have built a number of tanks including this kit and find some items are more suited to being painted before attaching. On the Whippet build I painted the exhausts, the machine guns with mounts, the towing cables and the tracks prior to fixing them in place. Fixing hem was after the base colour had been applied to the main tank body.
it’s a great kit and lends itself to some nice weathering. Good luck with the build.

Paul

Nice start Scott.  That picture would make for a nice diorama scene

Thanks Mike, a diorama is an interesting idea. I still have some 1/35 figures to do from the Mark IV Tamiya kit so that will give me a bit of experience and maybe I could incorporate both the Whippet and Mark IV into a scene.

Thank you Paul, a great suggestion.  I have prepainted the machine guns and will leave them off till the end. I’ll have to use my fine brush and optivisor for the exhaust etc that I’ve already installed!
