My apologies to @Louie da fly for yet another  Viking Long Boat. But it will be like no other Viking ship you have seen my friend. You will be green with envy  lol.

Yes the official box opening and look at the parts. One roll of line that's it , grinning already. 20240429_184324.thumb.jpg.7e9def5c867b33b2610cfa7145f22473.jpg

So I laid out the plans and instructions and noticed an empty space were Captain Marvin usually is, was empty:(.  Oh well I will miss the little fellow  but you can't build a  ships with out a #1 . So I hired two local  fellows who tell of a Irish Drakkar  that sail from Irelad in the late 10th century.  It's quite the tall tail, might even be a myth, by the looks of these two lol.

They tell a tale of a Drakkar that was called " The Green". Sound interesting  so . I don't know if I can put that in he title  but we will see. There story go's something like this.  Enjoy.

Taking a look at the plans and I am  going to start numbering parts and putting things away.   To day I will glue together the Keel and bulkheads together.  By that time   it will be  be time to quit for the day

@Glen McGuire glad to have you both along, I haven't seen Captain Marvin.  Last I hear he and his little brother Steve left earth.  😢.  I could use a good Ship Inspector; these two brothers I  got to replace Marvin are some thing else.  I now have two empty bottles of Kraken Rum, and they stole the Pegasus  boat and left. They did leave a plan of what they say was an old Norse plan of The Green.

20240503_135010.thumb.jpg.afffd83b92cd4a51d274a016012af6a2.jpg

I asked the First Mate to help me translate old Norse to English and this is what  she came up with. She's so smart. Some of the words were hard to make out but she believes that these are plans for a ship . I am going to follow this plan. The First Mate  and I translate and separate all the parts and stored some away.  I made a box to keep the right and left planks separated.  Plus, they're all numbered.20240503_163456.thumb.jpg.bf5cb4b1430793fb4f0d12b93b3d9318.jpg

@Louie da fly meet the Skul brother's.  The one  with the grey pants is Hed , his brothers name is Bone. And they are the Bone Hed Skul Viking Myths and Builders BSA  company .

Like I said, they gave me a plan; said it belonged to two notorious Irish Viking twin brothers. Identical in every way but one.  One was right handed and the other was left handed.  Their ship was The Green. They were fierce ruthless warriors, so the story went. After the second bottle of Kraken, the story got fuzzy.  In and out of old Norse and English, hard to understand.  9th century twins , illegitimate kids, father killed in some famous battle. The story went on and on. Their Death Vow to avenge their father, and to  build a  ship from plans that he had hidden away..  I will try to get more out of Bone Hed Skul, but I don't know if I would rely on them lol.

Now I have to trim bulk heads 2 , 6 and 10. Then check how the planks fit and then some last minute sanding, then start planking.  I'll let  you know how it goes.  And @Scottish Guy glad to have you along, some of this log may be Blarny Stone material, but it will be a fun journey  lol.

I have to say, the build looks easier than the Billing Boats "Roar Ege". Maybe I should have tried this one instead. But I stick to my Skuldelev, I started it so I will finish it. But it looks good and I know the rest of the build will be just entertaining and fun. We will miss the two little ones, hope they find their way back home.

Welcome aboard @md1400cs. I spent the day trying to understand the plans. Once I figured out most of what they did, I started planking with plank #11 right side, and quickly put on 12 and 13 as well. Then re-reading the plans, I guess I was supposed to put the planks on the left side as well. 20240504_144831.thumb.jpg.ac3eb0ac818bcb087712a90cb952388f.jpg

20240504_145143.thumb.jpg.751dea05f34cd1479f1e086edd747ca7.jpg

So tomorrow, I will start the left side, and once I catch up, I will alternate the rest of the way up .

Not sure how long that will take, it seems that the Irish Viking Twins have shown up looking for the Bone Hed skul Brothers  of Viking  Myths  BSA. Something about copyright infringement, and are these guys wild!  It took a while and of course more Kraken Rum  but they are calm for the moment.  At least they have stopped chanting" Daudi Vid Skul Brodirs" I think it means death to the Skul Brothers. Lol.

I will try to get some more information about their father and his plans for The Green, as well as names and some dates of when all this adventure happened.

20240504_170138.thumb.jpg.c4888f7a789e1ccbed776820cf988434.jpg

It may be a while, because I have to go get a load of Kraken Rum ;it seems to be their favorite.

If it helps get info on The Green, I will buy a keg or two, depending upon the information they can provide me. Lol 😆

Oh what an adventure this is turning out to be already, and I haven't even got to the rigging yet. A little disappointed that there are no ratlines, but not really  lol.

At last I am planking, and then on to the decks , so much fun!!!

Thank you for that Bob, looks like we both had the ssame issues to understand the plans. Unfortunately for me I did not understand mine well. I notice right now even a mistake I made on my Roar Ege. Your planking looks idfferent to mine. Different manufacturer, I get that, but the ship should look somehow equal and mine doesn´t, I think that is a reason why I had so much tension on the planks, because I did it worng and let all planks end at the same point instead of going up on bow and stern.

Thank you for pointing this out to me and leading me in the right way. Mine is done, therefore I try to make th best out of it. Looking forward to your progress.

Well she got a little bow on the portside but other than that it looks ok.  The planks had plenty of overlap, I thought I made a mistake because everyone  talk about very little overlap.  They are  pre cut so it was not that hard putting them on.  Now I just have to paint it.

Delany  one of the Viking Twins, has been filling my head with info. Apparently I got the name wrong, it is called  "The Green Dragon "   not just the green. His Fathers was kill in a battle, more like a massacre as he described it. Over a 1000 people were killed , it  happen in Kilkenny,  at the caves of Dunmore, in 928 AD . He told me how he and his brother buildt the ship after they father died. He left a will , a map, and the plans for the Dragon. That's all I got out of him before, you guessed it , into the Kraken lol.

I plan on putting in the floor next. Looks simple enough. Hopefully when Delany sobers up 😔,  he can tell me how she was painted. And was there anything about the sail that could help.

Vikings tend to tell longer stories when they are in their cups lol. And the story changes with each telling. Lol. Apparently more mistakes,  Delany is his last name, Eric and Ryan Delany, two of the most feared Vikings in Ireland. Bone Hed Skul  Viking Myths BSA  have quit, gone , They are deathly afraid of the twins.  Lol

Eric is more freidly  than Rayan, but they not that bad when they had a few, which is most of the time lol.

Eric says that the Dragon figure head is pretty close, it may be a little darker than he remembers  but he said something that made me laugh,  it will do , lol

I got this paint starter kit and I just love it. @Gabek  showed me this ,thanks you. I am hooked on figures  now lol.

20240509_194444.thumb.jpg.f87163974a3f4987715150dde3269388.jpg

I painted the Dragon last night  and the sheids both sides today. Everything looks shinny because I sealed it all with Shellac sealer. I will spray a flat finish when the time come.

I decided on a yellow sheid rail, and for the floor planks, I am using a 5B pencil to blacken the edges,  both of which I will install next week. Shipyard is closed for Mother's Day.

It's coming along nicely in my opinion,  minor things need attention,  but smooths sailing so far. Speaking of Sails, Eric informed me that the sail is two tone green witn a black two headed Dragon painted on the sail. Looks like I get to try out my new airbrush I bought last year and a half ago, money well invested lol.

So  Deja vu, on to installing  the floor decking lol then ,all the little things that go on the deck. Thanks for looking, and the likes

I knew if I tried to install the sheid rail,  that I would end up installing the deck,  lol.20240513_181745.thumb.jpg.adc981e2ceb53991b5c767b0773c7962.jpg

20240513_183336.thumb.jpg.571284a46e25a1171ba32b1b439f9141.jpg

The deck went fine. I am going to install a final strip along the outside edge of the deck, it just finishes it better, I think.

I toyed with the Dragon and the twins are anxious about getting underway,  something about a monastery ripe for the pickin.:10_1_10: . So I put  my trinkets away ,and you guessed it, dropped the dragon, broke a horn lol.

20240513_182549.thumb.jpg.485075bcc91c93b937ef7b3d2592eb0d.jpg

But a dab of CA and we are good to go. So now a little more sanding, add the cross bars then shape the mast, and start thinking of the sail. Soon I will be able to add this to the finish pile we got going here on MSW over 1271 plus one lol. That is so fantastic.

At least the smoke has cleared, finally.  It's still bad up north, and some of the locals up there have to evacuate , I wish them luck. No rain in the forecast either. This is shaping up to be a bad year for fires.raging-antarctica-wildfires-v0-rekarsfv9obc1.png.f30b138ccf7cfce7cb5c9de05e43d351.png

I have been  thinking about making a stand for the Green Dragon, but I really think I am going  to put it on the water. This will be the first time for making water, lots of info about that here on MSW and a workshop on it as well. Lots of planning  ahead, but the twins are helping lots as they want to get underway , like I say.:D

I am having so much fun building this boat. A mythical Green Dragon Darkkar.  And I can't believe I am almost  70 soon lol.  And can you believe it , I am thinking about the King of the Mississippi River Boat by AL. That I will tee up next lol.

Thanks for looking, and all the encouraging words members have sent over the year. They really have helped to keep me modeling . Now I can't see turning back.  I sailed too far. There is just so many directions that one could take this hobby, it's that much fun.

Later my friend's  stay safe and cool  😎,

Finally got some rain, only in the southern part of the province,  the north is still dry. People say they have never seen it this dry,

Rivers are low creeks are dry, I think climate change is here already.

The first Mate  has sewed the sail, she said she has enough to do a spare,  hopefully I won't need it.

I am going to be staining the sail light green, then take my airbrush and highlite the edges and seems. If that turns out well, I will spray the Dragon from a stencil I made. Hope it turns out ok.

The deck is finished and the sheilds rails are on, most of the sheids fit nice, one sits high and one drops right though. Lol

And I think for this boat I am going to make it on the ocean, so a trip to Michael's art supplies  shop Is in the future. After I watch  @hollowneck, work shop on water, again lol. And I got a buddy down in Texas  who will help if needed. GRIN.

No need for the First Mate to make the spare sail. I am pretty happy with the way it looks.  I just love my new airbrush.

20240515_175835.thumb.jpg.ac08681ab8eed74ee437f29b98747e02.jpg

It is the first time I use one, I can see how useful this will be, now  I better get some  lessons  lol.  I tried cleaning it by holding my finger on the end and expecting it to bubble.  But it doesn't  do that. So I washed it with water, then ran some isopropyl  99.9% through it.  It will take some time to learn the tricks but I am happy today.

The mast and yard are ready to go.  I have made one oar. 27 to go lol. The twins like the sail ,although they say theirs's had blood dripping from the teeth.  But it will do.

On to the oars and rigging , later my friend's.

Today the love of my life ❤️. Sewed the bolt rope on for me , now I can hang it and run some rigging.

Much love and appreciation for letting me buy your new sewing machine needed to sew my last sail for awhile. The next two builds don't have sails and the Pegasus does not have any either.  But money well spent Thank you. 😊

I watched the workshop  here on MSW, and got some great pointers. Now it up to me to paint the ocean. Not sure we're I want it to sit but some minor changes with the way it fits into the groove but happy with my first attempt at water. I going to highlight some drak green  and add some white,  and some spider web. Then the gloss coats, four at least .

Making of the oars is half finished,

1000005055.thumb.jpg.3be92f406a1a056caa811b7ea8f443aa.jpg

Very sketchy  instructions for the oars, I think I need four different lengths,  but I am pretty sure most of the oars will be under water. We will see.1000005056.thumb.jpg.5e9df37847e921a53a3ca2ee53a2eba4.jpg

1000005063.thumb.jpg.fa44bf221bfa261e8bd8ba50ba50881b.jpg

I like my ocean it  is shapping up nice, airbrush  some waves, don't know if I will brave fish yet But.

1000005064.thumb.jpg.aa67ed280cc4b6408ffbce07c7425f61.jpg

Off to portside,  a figure appears. At first  I thought it was  @Glen McGuire Kraken. His claw breaking the surface,  but on closer look,

1000005065.thumb.jpg.bab17a84480033783f0b11afdbd7562c.jpg

Could it possibly be,  I bet a little black paint and an eye  and litte paint on a bill ,its a Penguin .

1000005066.thumb.jpg.bfdfd9536a99d8ced65448a9312d801b.jpg

Oh yes I got to add that, lol.

Again thanks Ron, for your water workshop,  it really help me get started. Thanks for your time.

Well it's coming along well,  so many thought of what I like to do next, it's all so much fun.

I know my ships are not accurate  but theysure are darn fun to put together.  I can't thank MSW/NRG for helping  learn, and have all the info I need right here.

This Viking ship may not have existed,  and the twins may have different fathers  lol.:10_1_10:  But this is how I wanted my boat to look like . The sheids I wanted to paint different, but with this army paint, I would have to paint it white then the colour.  It was too much for me at this point. I am happy with them. The twins said that how their were painted, simple because they always break during battle,  so why paint them lol.

Got a place all picked out for were this Darkkar  Viking Long Boat will be stoed.

I can feel the pull of the next model lol.

I am  going to have to get me a Mark Twain  figure 1:80 scale @Gabek if you happen to have one lol.

  Later my friend's

I don't know about that, Bob.  I think ol' Nessie may have somehow made it half way around the world and found a new home in your water.

And BTW, really nice job on that water as well as the painting of the sail.  Well done on both!!

Looking very good, Bob. The sail came out very well.  I fear that more and more penguins will be soon taking over MSW though I do agree with Glen that is a Nessie in your water. Hmm... did Nessie scare off the penguins?

Well weather it was Nessie or a Penguin,  I re-did the water. I had to fix up the base so that the ship fits into it better. I filled the middle with drywall  mud then wrapped up the ship in plastic and pressed it in. Then I put it in front of the heater so it can dry. Then I took it out and  a bit of sanding and it was ready to repaint, then I notice the Penguin 🐧  or Nessie was gone. Oh well I can come up with some thing lol.

20240519_193406.thumb.jpg.495a24dcb54dab9dbca7e96d55de7fc6.jpg

Then the First Mate  says it needs more dark green in some places and dark blue in others.  So I repainted it all. Now just have to let that dry, and add the white highlights.  I ordered some spider web for the foam, I am going to add clear caulking, white paint and isopropyl 99.9 for foam . We will see how that goes.

Going to hang the sail, run some lines and make the oars and stand for them. Then tomorrow  I will put the boat on the water and see what it looks like. Then the clear coats.

Tomorrow marks three years that I joined MSW. I was just thinking of that, lol, I would not have tried a diorama back then but @hollowneck  Ron's workshop on water diorama has inspired me to try, thank you so much Ron . I understand the technical part of making the water, it's just my interpretation of how I want to paint it.,blending the right colors and just the right amount of highlites. That just comes from trying till you get it to where you want.

Talk to you all soon,  and thanks for all the likes and comments . MSW/NRG have help me build the models I have , this is such a great organization.  There is just so much to learn, and it's all here on MSW.

THANK YOU. 😊

Good Job, Bob! Thank You - I'm pleased you have been inspired by my workshop on water crafting.

Once you detail wave highlighting, add some "foam" - and place your model in her H20 "cradle" you will have a great presentation for your Viking boat. Arrrrggh!

Adding highlights  and a bit of color,  but happy with my first attempt at water.

The rigging is done,  just have to tie up the loose ends, all the seizing is done. I have two stays  left to tie,one rear and the forward one. Then just a little  foam, and place it in the case, till I get some figures for it.

It has  been a fun adventure ☺️,  I really enjoyed this kit. Everything fit nice and was not to hard to follow along with a few logs and all the info here. I must say the only drawback is the instructions,  they were not clear on a number of things.  The color and size of ropes is up to the builder. The instructions only say rope. Totally confused about the oars but they will be in the rack so no big deal.

I added  the wind today, with GAC 400, I like this stuff, just brush on a good coat on both sides then blow dry with hairdryer,  for about 10 minutes,  on warm heat High wind. Thanks @mrcc  for this tip, I just love the way it made the sail look. 😊

I am getting pretty excited about finishing up this ship . I made water , and my first  clinker build, that was supposed to be that way lol.

A few little things to do and off to the case  it goes .

Thanks for looking and following along,  with the story, the twins are up to something,  they are asking questions about Kraken Rum  for sale by the keg.

Pretty much going to look like this, which I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to try make it look like this. But it  is not in the case yet so the look could change lol.
